Description

Mintrocket’s widely acclaimed blend of fishing adventure and management sim, Dave The Diver, has long been praised as an ideal title for portable platforms.

However, the initial Nintendo Switch release struggled to match its counterparts, hindered by reduced frame rates and extended load times.

The arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade promises to address these pain points, delivering substantial enhancements for one of the year's most celebrated indie games. Released in June 2023 on other platforms and later debuting on Nintendo Switch, Dave The Diver quickly established itself as a must-play adventure, blending deep-sea exploration, quirky storytelling, and sushi restaurant management into a unique package.

The game’s Switch version had notable limitations, notably a modest 30 frames per second target and protracted loading sequences, particularly evident when starting a session or diving into the Blue Hole.

Mintrocket’s commitment to the platform was reaffirmed with the recent launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Upgrade Pack, which offers existing owners a free, transformative upgrade. Upon installing the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, the improvements are immediately apparent.

Load times for the initial boot have been reduced to approximately 20 seconds—compared to over 40 seconds on the original Switch OLED—while in-game transitions, such as entering a dive, are similarly expedited.

This reduction significantly improves the pacing and playability for those looking to enjoy quick sessions on the go.

Most notably, Dave The Diver now targets a smooth 60 frames per second on Switch 2 hardware, doubling the previous cap and aligning the portable experience closer to PC and console versions in terms of responsiveness and visual fidelity. Another welcome addition is enhanced HD Rumble support on Switch 2.

Mintrocket has seamlessly integrated tactile feedback into cutscenes and active gameplay sequences, heightening immersion.

Although it doesn't reach the advanced haptics found on PlayStation 5's DualSense controllers, the feature adds appreciable depth to the handheld experience. One technical quirk that persists is the Unity engine’s scrolling or tick rate issue, resulting in camera movement that is not as fluid as intended during diving segments.

As reported by sources such as Digital Foundry, this limitation affects all current versions of Dave The Diver, from Nintendo Switch 2 to PC, and has not been fully resolved as of this release.

While not a dealbreaker, it remains the one notable blemish on an otherwise stellar port. For seasoned players and newcomers alike, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition stands as the definitive handheld version of Dave The Diver.

The substantial performance gains make it an easy recommendation, especially with the free upgrade option for existing Switch owners.

Mintrocket’s ongoing support, combined with the Switch 2’s enhanced capabilities, cements this edition as one of the best ways to experience the genre-bending adventure on the go. Dave The Diver Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is now available via the Nintendo eShop.

Whether you’re diving back in or taking the plunge for the first time, this upgraded release promises improved accessibility and enjoyment, reaffirming Mintrocket’s achievement in blending engaging management with memorable adventure.
