Success Corporation has officially announced the release of Cotton: Rock With You, the latest entry in its long-running Cotton franchise, which will debut in Japan on August 6th, 2024.
This highly anticipated 2D shooter will be available for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and PC via Steam, marking a significant milestone in the series’ 35-year history.
Originally introduced to arcades in 1991 with Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams, the Cotton franchise has become a beloved staple in the cute 'em up genre.
Cotton: Rock With You was first revealed in September last year, just prior to its appearance in the Tokyo Game Show 2023 lineup.
Its development is helmed by Success Corporation, the creators that originated the Cotton series.
In a clear nod to its arcade roots, the game will also see a dedicated arcade version via the ALL.Net P-ras MULTI Version 3 platform, following selective location testing held earlier this year at Akihabara Hey and Takadanobaba Game Center Mikado in Tokyo.
Cotton: Rock With You follows the familiar adventures of Nata de Cotton, a candy-loving witch, as she embarks on another journey in search of the coveted Willow candy – this time across various locations in Japan.
In addition to Nata de Cotton, players will have the opportunity to choose from a roster of 10 playable characters, which includes crossover guest characters such as Izuna from Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja and Psyva Ria, a character inspired by the player aircraft from Psyvariar 3.
The game features a total of 16 diverse stages, with six main stages selectable by the player, as well as additional bonus and final stages.
Most levels utilize classic 2D side-scrolling gameplay reminiscent of the original entry, though certain stages adopt 3D visual elements similar to those first seen in Panorama Cotton, adding variety to the overall experience.
Cotton: Rock With You will be offered in both standard and limited physical editions.
The standard edition will be available physically and digitally for 6,380 yen.
Meanwhile, collectors can opt for the limited edition, priced at 11,880 yen, which includes exclusive content such as an art book, a soundtrack CD, and an acrylic stand featuring the main character.
