Description

Decemberborn Interactive has officially announced Cathedral: Crow’s Curse, a brand-new standalone prequel to the acclaimed indie action adventure Cathedral, coming soon to the Nintendo Switch.

Building upon the success of the original Cathedral, which garnered praise on the Nintendo Switch eShop for its challenging gameplay and innovative design, Cathedral: Crow’s Curse promises to deliver an even more immersive experience for fans and newcomers alike. Cathedral: Crow’s Curse transports players back into the mysterious, interconnected world familiar to fans of Cathedral.

This time, the story focuses on Crow, a skilled Shade Sentinel who originally appeared as an NPC in the first game.

As turmoil begins to unravel the balance of the eerie Shade Forest, Crow sets out through cursed woodlands and ancient ruins to discover the origins of the enigmatic Sentinels and confront powerful dark forces threatening the land. The upcoming Nintendo Switch title introduces a host of advancements to the franchise.

Unlike Cathedral's signature 8-bit NES-inspired graphics, Crow’s Curse boasts a new pixel art style, dynamic lighting, and fluid character animations, presenting a stunning visual upgrade.

The hand-crafted world is now more seamlessly connected, featuring familiar settings alongside expansive new areas to explore, enriching the sense of adventure across every region. Gameplay in Cathedral: Crow’s Curse is designed with precision in mind.

Combat mechanics prioritize fast-paced, skill-based encounters where recognizing enemy patterns, timing dodges, and employing blocks and parries are essential for survival.

Stealth is a vital tactical element, allowing players to bypass dangerous adversaries or unleash deadly ambushes by attacking from the shadows.

Throughout the journey, players can find potent items, expand skill trees, and unlock new movement abilities, providing deep customization and replayability. Commenting on the studio’s vision, Eric Lavesson, founder and CTO of Decemberborn Interactive, affirmed the team’s dedication to authenticity and player experience: “At Decemberborn Interactive, our passion lies in crafting games that leave an impact.

Returning to the universe of Cathedral and unfolding this new narrative is a labor of love.

Every aspect of Cathedral: Crow’s Curse has been developed with care, and we can’t wait for players to experience the results of our commitment.” While the initial announcement did not provide an official release date for Cathedral: Crow’s Curse on Nintendo Switch, anticipation is building within the indie games community and among fans of action-adventure titles.

The studio has released a teaser trailer offering a glimpse of the revitalized art style, atmospheric environments, and dynamic gameplay innovations players can expect at launch.
