In a recent interview, Capcom president Haruhito Tsujimoto provided valuable insights into the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, with a particular focus on how the platform's launch exceeded company expectations.

The conversation occurred while discussing Capcom’s hit action RPG Monster Hunter Wilds, renowned for its impressive global sales figures surpassing ten million units.

With Capcom’s strong track record on Nintendo hardware—from the original Switch to ongoing eShop releases—the company’s perspective offers an authoritative view into consumer trends shaping the industry in 2025. Reflecting on game hardware affordability and its effect on reaching wider audiences, Tsujimoto highlighted a pressing challenge facing developers and publishers in today's market: the high cost of current-generation consoles.

He explained, “The so-called 'PS5 barrier' proved to be higher than anticipated.

In Japan, the PlayStation 5 priced at around 80,000 yen, and when software and subscription fees are included, the initial cost can reach as much as 100,000 yen.

This price point is especially daunting for younger consumers and is a trend seen not only in Japan, but also internationally.” Tsujimoto emphasized Capcom's commitment to overcoming these obstacles as the company looks to expand the reach of Monster Hunter Wilds.

With sales campaigns and strategic planning currently underway, Capcom is exploring every avenue to boost engagement and accessibility throughout the coming year, taking cues from the massive response to their game launches on multiple platforms. Turning to the Nintendo Switch 2’s market performance, Tsujimoto openly praised the reception of Nintendo’s latest hardware.

Officially released in June 2025 at a retail price of 49,980 yen (tax included), the Switch 2 was met with stronger demand than internal forecasts had projected.

He noted, “The popularity of Nintendo Switch 2 reaffirmed for us just how cost-conscious mainstream gamers remain.

This is consistent across global markets and underscores the importance of affordable hardware in growing the broader gaming audience.” Capcom’s proactive approach can already be seen in their robust Switch support, with recent releases including Street Fighter 6 and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess making appearances on the Nintendo eShop.

When asked earlier this year about a version of Monster Hunter Wilds specifically for Nintendo Switch 2, series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto addressed the topic but did not confirm any specifics, keeping the gaming community eager for future announcements. As Capcom maps out its strategy for Monster Hunter Wilds and other major franchises, the company’s positive experience with Nintendo Switch 2 highlights Nintendo’s enduring influence in making gaming accessible and affordable worldwide.

Industry watchers will be keeping a close eye on further collaborations and releases as the hardware continues to gain traction.
