Taito has commemorated the 38th anniversary of iconic characters Bub and Bob with the release of Final Bubble Bobble, now available as a standalone game on the Nintendo Switch eShop in Japan for ¥660.
Originally introduced in 1988 for the Sega Mark III in Japan, before arriving in Europe in 1991 on the Sega Master System, Final Bubble Bobble is an enhanced port of the classic Bubble Bobble arcade game that holds a special place in retro gaming history.
Final Bubble Bobble expanded upon the original arcade title by introducing new gameplay elements, including additional secret rooms, items, endings, and bosses.
These improvements provided players with more depth and replayability, cementing its status as a highly regarded follow-up among fans of the franchise.
Taito’s latest release brings this beloved iteration to the Nintendo Switch, making it accessible to a modern audience while preserving the gameplay that defined the series.
Previously, Final Bubble Bobble was featured exclusively as a Prime Day pre-order bonus for Bubble Bobble 4 Friends in 2019 on the Japanese Amazon store.
That version was only available to those who pre-ordered the title, limiting its reach among collectors and series enthusiasts.
This week marks the first time Final Bubble Bobble is available for individual purchase on the Nintendo Switch platform, allowing a broader segment of players to experience the historic title firsthand.
The new standalone version can be downloaded from the Japanese Nintendo eShop for ¥660.
As of today, Taito has not announced plans for a Western release, and there is no public information indicating a scheduled launch outside Japan.
International fans will need to keep an eye on official channels for any future developments regarding a global release.
With this latest rerelease, Taito reaffirms its commitment to honoring video game history and its flagship franchises.
The updated Nintendo Switch eShop version of Final Bubble Bobble provides both new and longtime fans the opportunity to relive an expanded, nostalgic classic on contemporary hardware, further enriching the Switch’s growing library of retro and arcade-inspired experiences.
