Description

Revolution Software continues to delight adventure game fans with the release of Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

Nearly a year after the celebrated point-and-click classic made its modern debut on the original Switch, the studio has taken another significant step forward, launching a fully enhanced version for Nintendo Switch 2 on the Nintendo eShop.

Available now for €29.99/$29.99/£24.99, or as a €4.99/$4.99/£4.99 upgrade for existing owners of the previous Switch version, this edition delivers a suite of improvements harnessing the capabilities of Nintendo’s newest hardware. At the heart of this Switch 2 Edition is the introduction of Mouse Mode, made possible by the new Joy-Con 2’s expanded features.

By turning the controller sideways, players can replicate the precision of traditional point-and-click gameplay, bringing an experience closer to the game’s original PC roots.

Additionally, this version boasts fully remastered 4K visuals in docked mode and crisp 1080p resolution in handheld play, allowing the game’s iconic art to shine as never before. Revolution Software’s co-founder, Charles Cecil, emphasized that this iteration addresses player feedback received over the past year and fulfills long-standing ambitions for the game’s presentation.

In a recent conversation, Cecil explained: “The mouse control is arguably the most authentic way to experience Broken Sword, and a number of the points raised at last year’s launch have now been resolved for the Switch 2’s native version.” Discussing the game’s visual overhaul, Cecil detailed the meticulous process undertaken by the development team.

"Our goal was to stay true to our original vision from the '90s while delivering enhancements.

We returned to the original 1996 character sheets, interpreted and redrew the sprites, and recreated the backgrounds using high-resolution scans of the original line art—all designed to showcase the game in 4K,” he shared. Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged invites players to step into the shoes of American tourist George Stobbart, setting out from the bustling streets of Paris and exploring a globe-spanning conspiracy involving the enigmatic Knights Templar.

The game presents a blend of classic point-and-click puzzles and a deeply woven narrative, all illustrated with detailed new artwork and supported by upgraded audio. Nintendo Switch 2 players can also customize their experience with flexible control schemes, seamlessly switching between Joy-Con mouse controls, touchscreen, and standard controller inputs.

For added accessibility, the title includes a mode selector, allowing players to alternate between the fully enhanced visuals and the original 1996 look at the press of a button.

‘Traditional mode’ retains the challenge adventure fans expect, while ‘story mode’ provides helpful hints for newcomers or those who want to focus on the narrative. With this release, Revolution Software once again proves its commitment to honoring the legacy of Broken Sword while embracing the possibilities of modern Nintendo hardware.

As the studio continues to refine and celebrate its classics, fans and newcomers alike can experience one of adventure gaming’s most beloved journeys in its finest form to date on Nintendo Switch 2.
