Description

Sting, the renowned Japanese game developer and publisher, has officially announced the Baroque-Ya collection for Nintendo Switch, featuring four notable titles from its cult post-apocalyptic franchise, Baroque.

Scheduled to launch on December 18, 2024, in Japan, Baroque-Ya aims to bring together a curated selection of entries from the Baroque universe—many of which have rarely been available outside Japan—in a single, convenient package for modern audiences.

Baroque’s Legacy and Platform History Originally debuting on the Sega Saturn in 1998, Baroque quickly drew a following for its challenging 3D dungeon-crawling gameplay and atmospheric storytelling.

The game is set in a surreal, ravaged world filled with monstrous meta-beings.

Players guide a silent, amnesiac protagonist through the enigmatic floors of a tower, striving to redeem humanity for its past transgressions.

Over the years, Baroque’s unique narrative and gameplay saw it ported across numerous platforms, including PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii, iOS, and most recently, Nintendo Switch.

However, only the PS2, Wii, and iOS versions ever officially reached audiences outside Japan.

Dedicated fans have since created English translations of the Saturn and PlayStation releases, keeping the series alive globally. What’s Included in Baroque-Ya for Switch Sting’s new Baroque-Ya collection assembles a diverse lineup from the franchise: - BAROQUE: Original Version - BAROQUE Syndrome (the 2000 PlayStation visual novel prequel) - BAROQUE Shooting: Reversed - BAROQUE ~Become a Meta-Being~ Revive This release marks the first time several of these spin-offs will be readily available on modern hardware, especially outside their original Japanese platforms.

Notably, Baroque Syndrome is based on a novella by Mariko Shimizu, published in Sega Saturn Magazine, and further expands the enigmatic lore behind the Baroque universe.

Baroque Shooting and Become a Meta-Being offer fans new gameplay experiences stemming from the core series. Official Announcement and Future Localization Sting’s announcement, first covered by Gematsu, delivered a significant update for Baroque enthusiasts.

A representative from Sting noted that Baroque-Ya will debut on December 18, 2024, for Nintendo Switch via Japan’s eShop, with no confirmation yet regarding an English localization or Western release.

For now, international fans must wait for further updates and monitor the game’s official website for news. Baroque’s distinct storytelling, dark atmosphere, and challenging gameplay continue to resonate with dedicated fans two decades after its initial release.

With Baroque-Ya, Sting honors the series’ legacy and introduces new players to the depth of its post-apocalyptic world on Nintendo Switch.

As more information becomes available, especially regarding a potential localization, gaming industry watchers and Baroque fans alike will be eager to learn more about this anticipated collection.
