Atari and Digital Eclipse have confirmed Barbie Rewind is in development for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, combining a modern DreamHouse design experience with a curated collection of classic Barbie games from the 1990s and 2000s.
The title is slated to launch both at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop worldwide in 2026.
Barbie Rewind interweaves a newly built DreamHouse customization mode with 16 legacy Barbie titles originally released across handheld and console platforms.
Players will be able to style individual rooms using more than 250 pieces of furniture, decor and accessories inspired by real Barbie playsets spanning over 65 years.
Many of those items must be unlocked by completing objectives inside the included classic games, tying design progression to gameplay achievements.
Digital Eclipse — a studio known for restoring and enhancing older games for modern systems — will deliver the remastered classics alongside the new design mode.
The retro lineup includes Barbie Pet Rescue (originally on Game Boy Color) and Barbie Horse Adventures: Blue Ribbon Race (originally on Game Boy Advance).
The collection also features the never-before-released Barbie: Vacation Adventure for Sega Genesis and SNES, all updated to be accessible on current consoles.
Digital Eclipse studio head Mike Mika said the project is intended to both preserve Barbie’s history and present it to new audiences, emphasizing the team’s goal to celebrate more than six decades of Barbie design and play through video games while appealing to longtime fans and modern players alike.
Atari vice president of games Ethan Stearns added that Atari is proud to support Barbie’s legacy of inspiring creativity and confidence across generations, and looks forward to seeing players collaborate across age groups to style the DreamHouse.
Key features announced by the publisher include:
- Creative Expression: Three retro DreamHouse exteriors and 250+ mix-and-match pieces inspired by decades of official Barbie playsets.
- 16 Classic Barbie Games: Remastered titles from 1991–2007, updated for today’s consoles, including Game Boy Color and GBA favorites and previously unreleased Genesis/SNES content.
- Quest-Based Unlocks: Design requests from characters earn XP and unlock new items.
- Exclusive Digital Lookbook: Meet characters such as Ken, Teresa and Christie while exploring Barbie’s history through DreamHouse designs.
A Barbie Rewind Deluxe Physical Edition for Nintendo Switch will be available at retail, delivered in a numbered box and including an exclusive doll wearing an Atari T‑shirt and blue jeans, along with a full-colour poster.
The announcement confirms the game will be available both physically and via the Nintendo eShop in 2026.
