Bandai Namco will release Tales of Eternia Remastered for Nintendo Switch and the next-generation Switch 2 in October. The publisher has posted an extensive "list of changes" on the game's Japanese website outlining new convenience features, accessibility updates, audio options and gameplay adjustments for the remaster.
Key updates and quality-of-life improvements
- Destination and item markers: The remaster adds a configurable Destination Icon system that shows yellow exclamation marks for main-scenario objectives, a ★ icon for valuable items (encyclopedias, maps), an hourglass for time-limited events, and a blue exclamation for skill- and technique-learning events. Players can toggle these markers from Menu > Custom > "Destination Icon."
- Boost, retry and skip functions: Bandai Namco explains the remaster includes a Boost Function to speed progression, a Battle Retry option accessible from the Game Over menu, and skip/pause controls for events, skits and movies. Auto-save points have also been added.
- Movement, recovery and combat speed: The update introduces high-speed movement on the field, an option to set default movement to walking or fast movement, a one-button quick-recovery to heal party HP and status, and a high-speed AUTO combat mode toggle.
Audio, visual and accessibility features
- Graphics and SE modes: A Graphics Mode toggle lets players switch between Remastered and Original visuals (UI unchanged). A separate SE Mode switch toggles remastered or original sound effects.
- Voice language and volume controls: Players can switch between Japanese and English voiceovers and adjust a new Master Volume. Sample playback buttons for SE and voice volume are included.
- Subtitles and color-vision support: Subtitles are added to skit movies, some mini-games and certain combat voice lines. Dungeon gimmicks and mini-games that relied on color identification have been redesigned to support color-vision accessibility.
Content carryover, difficulty and extras
- Second-playthrough carryover: Loading cleared save data presents transfer options for learned techniques, items, cooking recipes, encyclopedias and more (titles are excluded). The high-difficulty Nereid's Labyrinth is unlocked earlier in this remaster, and the "Mania" combat level is available from the first playthrough. A newly added "Unknown" combat level becomes selectable from the second playthrough onward.
- Skit and sound players: A Skit Player and Sound Player are included. Bandai Namco notes that some original "Sound Test" functionality is not reproduced verbatim in the remaster.
Additional notes
Bandai Namco also listed UI adjustments, corrected typographical errors from the original, removal of the character name-change function, and changes to certain sub-events (including revamped Tales quiz questions). These details were published on the game's Japanese website ahead of the October release for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
