Description

Bandai Namco, a leader in Japanese role-playing games, has offered a rare behind-the-scenes look into the release strategy for its well-known Tales of series remasters.

As interest and enthusiasm for classic game updates surge across platforms like Nintendo Switch, fans have noted the seemingly out-of-order schedule for these sought-after re-releases. The publisher’s remaster initiative began with Tales of Graces f Remastered, originally released in 2009, setting the stage for more titles to return to modern hardware.

Next in line is Tales of Xillia Remastered—an enhanced version of the 2011 fan favorite—which is confirmed for a Nintendo Switch launch on October 31, 2025.

This upcoming release continues the legacy of the critically acclaimed franchise, following previous updated editions such as Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia, both of which preceded the officially titled Tales of Remastered Project. Addressing fan questions about the remaster rollout, Bandai Namco’s general producer Yusuke Tomizawa spoke at Tokyo Game Show 2025, clarifying the process that dictates the sequence of releases.

According to Tomizawa, every title undergoes rigorous investigation to locate and assess the original source code and data.

He explained that, over years of development handled by different studios, tracking down these assets is a complex and time-consuming task.

Tomizawa emphasized that, "We always start by determining the whereabouts of the source code and identifying who has managed it.

It's an arduous task because, with various studios involved throughout the series' history, we first need to find the data.

Oftentimes, when located, the source material contains significant gaps, and addressing these issues requires extensive analysis lasting months." Bandai Namco is orchestrating multiple remaster projects in parallel.

The decision on which title to release next is determined by the feasibility and projected completion speed, rather than chronological order.

As Tomizawa remarked, the aim is to bring these beloved games back to fans as quickly as quality standards allow.

He acknowledged fans' curiosity and reiterated that the company strives to deliver remasters to market as soon as possible, without sacrificing the fidelity or experience that the series is known for. The upcoming Tales of Xillia Remastered will be available for Nintendo Switch users on October 31, 2025, further expanding the series’ reach onto the eShop and modern hardware.

Bandai Namco’s continued commitment to reviving notable entries from its celebrated RPG catalog reassures longtime fans and new players alike, spotlighting the technical care and thoughtful planning invested into each remaster for the Nintendo Switch platform and beyond.
