Bandai Namco Addresses Possibility of a 'Tales of' Remake Amid Ongoing Nintendo Switch Remasters

Bandai Namco’s beloved Tales of series, which has long held a prominent place in the Japanese RPG landscape, is experiencing a resurgence on modern platforms, with a series of high-profile remasters landing on the Nintendo Switch.

As the franchise gears up for the release of Tales of Berseria Remastered, launching globally on February 26, 2026 for Nintendo’s hybrid console, questions have arisen about the likelihood of a fully-fledged remake joining the wave of refreshed classics.

Tales of, developed by Bandai Namco, has seen several legacy titles revitalized through remasters in recent years.

These upgraded versions, available through platforms like the Nintendo eShop, have introduced both longtime fans and newcomers to beloved stories with improved visuals and accessibility.

However, fans have been vocal about their interest in a more ambitious project: a complete remake. In an interview with Game Informer, Yuusuke Tomizawa—director of the Tales of intellectual property—provided authoritative insight into Bandai Namco’s stance on the possibility of a remake.

According to Tomizawa, while the idea has been discussed internally on numerous occasions, executing a remake requires an exceptionally high level of commitment and resources.

He explained, “Remakes tend to demand a volume of resources comparable to, or even exceeding, that of developing an entirely new game.

It’s a challenging undertaking that isn’t easily pursued.

Should we proceed with a remake, it must present as much promise as a brand-new title.

We’ve conducted extensive internal evaluations about potential projects, recognizing that there’s significant fan interest, especially for older entries with a devoted following.

As such, a remake remains a possibility, but its realization also depends on the right timing and circumstances.” While Tomizawa’s comments underscore the complexity and scale involved in developing a full remake for the Tales of series, he reassured fans that more remasters are on the horizon.

When asked about upcoming projects, he affirmed Bandai Namco’s commitment to meeting fan expectations and urged the community to stay tuned for further announcements.

“We aim to deliver the titles that fans most anticipate, so please look forward to future news,” he concluded. With the confirmed release of Tales of Berseria Remastered on Nintendo Switch, Bandai Namco continues to celebrate and preserve the legacy of the Tales of franchise.

The company’s ongoing support for Nintendo’s platform and its vast RPG catalog signals a bright future for the series.

For now, while a full remake may not be imminent, the steady cadence of high-quality remasters ensures that the Tales of saga remains accessible to both new players and series veterans on modern hardware.
