Arcade1Up Unveils NBA Jam and Sega Golden Axe Cabinets at CES 2020
Arcade1Up, a key player in the retro gaming hardware market, made major headlines at CES 2020 with the announcement of its latest arcade cabinets.
This rapidly expanding company has already earned a strong reputation among enthusiasts, having previously launched licensed replicas of classic arcade titles such as Konami’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel vs.
Capcom, Pac-Man, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter II.
By bringing beloved games back in affordable, authentic form, Arcade1Up has found a loyal following amongst gamers nostalgic for the arcade scene of the 1980s and 1990s.
This year, the spotlight was firmly on Arcade1Up’s new NBA Jam cabinet—a four-player machine that doesn’t just recreate the original arcade experience but also offers robust online play.
In addition to the iconic NBA Jam, the cabinet comes packed with NBA Jam Tournament Edition and NBA Hangtime, delivering a full dose of classic basketball action.
Although the final retail price will be confirmed closer to launch, company representatives at CES suggested the cabinet would be priced in the $399 to $499 range.
Industry attendees were also treated to news of an upcoming licensed Sega cabinet from Arcade1Up, which includes the long-requested Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder.
This 1992 release, long considered one of the highlights of Sega’s arcade portfolio, has never been officially available on home consoles—until now.
Set for release in May, the cabinet features authentic versions of other Sega favorites such as Altered Beast, Shinobi, Wrestle War, and the original Golden Axe, all running via official emulation.
Notably, the inclusion of Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder marks a significant milestone for fans eager to experience this arcade classic outside the original coin-op hardware.
The return of these classic games in officially licensed form highlights Arcade1Up’s ongoing efforts to preserve and celebrate gaming history.
With online connectivity in machines like NBA Jam, modern players can experience multiplayer bouts across the country, bridging the gap between classic design and contemporary expectations.
While the price point—a likely $400–$500 investment—means these cabinets are premium collectibles, their appeal is undeniable for retro fans and dedicated collectors.
Although there is no official word yet on whether Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder or other titles from these cabinets will eventually come to platforms like the Nintendo Switch or the Sega Ages eShop line, the wave of classic arcade releases and renewed interest from publishers like Sega signals a positive trend for video game preservation.
Arcade1Up’s latest offerings, showcased at CES 2020, underscore the continued relevance of arcade gaming and the enduring power of nostalgia within the video game industry.
