Description

Analogue Announces Analogue 3D: FPGA-Based Nintendo 64 Reimagining Arriving in 2024 Analogue, the specialist developer behind premium retro gaming hardware, has officially announced the Analogue 3D, an FPGA-powered console designed as a modern reimagining of the iconic Nintendo 64.

Continuing its commitment to preserving gaming history through high-fidelity, hardware-accurate recreations, Analogue’s latest system is slated for release in 2024, bringing a new era for N64 enthusiasts and collectors. A New Standard for Retro Gaming Hardware Much like Analogue’s previous offerings, including the Super Nt and Mega Sg—each acclaimed for authentically running original SNES and Sega Genesis cartridges—the Analogue 3D is engineered for uncompromised compatibility.

The company confirms that the Analogue 3D will support the complete regional library of Nintendo 64 cartridges, ensuring gamers across North America, Japan, and Europe can enjoy their collections without limitation.

The system is powered by a custom FPGA and runs on Analogue’s proprietary operating system, marking the culmination of three years of dedicated development. Modern Technology Meets Classic Gaming Key hardware features set the Analogue 3D apart: it delivers 4K output via HDMI, enabling crisp visuals on contemporary television screens.

To enhance the classic experience, the console includes a variety of "Original Display Modes," purpose-built to authentically replicate the appearance of CRT or PVM displays.

This attention to visual accuracy allows modern players to experience N64 games as they were originally intended, even on today’s flat-panel TVs. With Controller Flexibility and Wireless Options Recognizing the importance of authentic controls, Analogue has partnered with renowned accessory maker 8BitDo to create a new wireless controller tailored for the Analogue 3D.

Yet, for purists, the system features four original Nintendo 64 controller ports, allowing players to plug in their classic gamepads.

The console additionally supports Bluetooth and 2.4G wireless connectivity, opening access to a broader range of modern controllers. Focus on Physical Media and Compatibility Reflecting Analogue's philosophy of authenticity, the Analogue 3D will not support the company’s OpenFPGA platform, which enabled community-developed cores on devices like the Analogue Pocket.

Instead, the new console deliberately focuses on playing original, physical N64 cartridges exclusively, with ROM files and digital library access not supported. While full images of the Analogue 3D hardware remain unreleased, a teaser glimpse of the wireless controller showcases Analogue’s ongoing commitment to marrying retro design with advanced technology. The Analogue 3D is due to launch in 2024, further cementing Analogue’s reputation as a leader in the retro gaming hardware space and offering Nintendo 64 fans their most authentic modern gameplay experience yet.
