Activision Teases Tony Hawk Pro Skater Remasters as Countdown Fuels Hype for Nintendo Switch Release
Activision has reignited excitement within the skateboarding video game community by launching a prominent countdown timer on the official Tony Hawk video game website.
The timer, which went live on February 22, 2025, points to a much-anticipated announcement—strengthening mounting rumors about forthcoming remasters in the iconic Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise.
Both Activision and developer Iron Galaxy’s logos are now visible at the bottom of the page, further confirming their involvement in the project.
Hints of a new Tony Hawk Pro Skater remaster first surfaced earlier this week when professional skateboarder Tyshawn Jones revealed his participation in an unreleased Tony Hawk project, fueling speculation about an impending release.
"There's a new Tony Hawk remaster that I'm in, which is coming out very soon," he stated during a recent interview, a remark that has garnered significant attention among long-time fans of the series.
The speculation gained further momentum with a clever Easter egg found in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6—another major release from Activision.
In the game's second season, the returning ‘Grind’ map, set in the skateboarding mecca of Venice Beach, California, now features an in-game poster located inside the skate shop.
The poster displays the date "03.04.25" (March 4, 2025) in a distinctive font style reminiscent of the Tony Hawk branding.
This has led many in the gaming community to anticipate an official reveal or release date for the new remaster.
Adding to the intrigue, skating legend Tony Hawk himself acknowledged the buzz around the announcement on social media, responding to the emerging rumors with a well-placed eyes emoji, signaling to fans that more news is indeed on the horizon.
Industry insiders and series followers are speculating that the potential remasters could include Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4.
This would follow on the heels of the critically acclaimed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, which was developed by Vicarious Visions (now part of Blizzard Entertainment) and launched on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch via the eShop.
For those unfamiliar, the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise has been a staple in action sports video gaming since its original debut in 1999.
With over 20 million copies sold across all titles, the series is lauded for its fast-paced gameplay and genre-defining soundtrack.
Iron Galaxy, known for ports and technical work on games including Overwatch and Diablo III for Nintendo Switch, is now joining Activision in the development of the Tony Hawk remasters—a partnership that has further raised fan expectations for polished, high-quality releases.
With the countdown ticking and all signs pointing to a major announcement on March 4, 2025, fans across the Nintendo Switch and broader gaming community are eagerly awaiting confirmation of the next chapter in the Tony Hawk saga.
As always, stay tuned for updates following new information from Activision, Iron Galaxy, or an official Nintendo Direct event.
