BioMenace Remastered Demo Launches July 11 on Steam: Apogee Classic Gets New Life from Rigel Gameworks The retro gaming revival continues as Rigel Gameworks prepares to release a demo for BioMenace Remastered, set to go live on Steam this Friday, July 11.

The remaster revisits the cult-favorite run 'n gun platformer BioMenace, originally developed by Apogee Software and launched in 1993 for MS-DOS.

In this updated version, both longtime fans and newcomers can experience the adrenaline-fueled gameplay of secret agent Snake Logan, who battles mutants and monstrous villains in his quest to save the city from the evil Dr.

Mangle. The demo includes four levels from the finished product, allowing players to sample enhancements and modernizations while Rigel Gameworks continues development, particularly on Episode Four.

According to the team, this demo is an opportunity for players to "get a feel" for BioMenace Remastered as the project advances towards its full release, currently targeted for Fall 2025. Developer Rigel Gameworks has taken to social media to address recent community questions regarding the development process and licensing.

In a recently published Q&A and FAQ, the developers shared insights on Apogee Entertainment's involvement.

While Rigel Gameworks approached Apogee about collaborating on the remaster, the historic publisher was focused on launching new intellectual properties.

Instead, Apogee provided a valuable connection with BioMenace creator Jim Norwood, who currently holds the rights to the original game.

With Norwood's approval and rights licensing, Rigel Gameworks has moved forward, further preserving the legacy of this Apogee classic. BioMenace Remastered will initially launch on Steam, with Rigel Gameworks also considering platforms such as GOG and Nintendo Switch, contingent upon the reception of the PC release and required resources for development kits.

This approach ensures that the team maintains quality while responding to community demand for multi-platform availability. Originally launched by Apogee Software—famed for titles like Duke Nukem and help launching early id Software hits such as Commander Keen and Wolfenstein 3D—BioMenace stands out as a vibrant example of early '90s platform gaming.

Created by Jim Norwood, later known for Shadow Warrior, and with a soundtrack by legendary composer Bobby Prince (of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom), BioMenace thrived in the MS-DOS era and has maintained a devoted following thanks to its action-packed gameplay and nostalgic charm. The remaster promises a host of enhancements including widescreen visuals, smooth scrolling at 60 FPS or higher, enhanced HUD, parallax effects, rebalanced difficulty, quick saves, and completion tracking.

Purists will also appreciate the option to toggle between original and remastered graphics mid-gameplay.

Modern features such as controller and Steam Deck support further update this classic for new audiences.

Notably, Bobby Prince’s original soundtrack will accompany the experience, paying homage to the game’s roots. Players interested in staying updated or eager to support the project early can add BioMenace Remastered to their Steam wishlist now.

As the retro renaissance continues, Rigel Gameworks appears poised to deliver a feature-rich tribute to one of Apogee’s beloved deep-cuts, bringing BioMenace back to the forefront of platforming classics.
