About Crystal Dynamics
Crystal Dynamics is an American video game developer based in San Francisco Bay Area and a subsidiary of Square Enix. The studio is best-known for its contribution in Tomb Raider series as well as creating Legacy of Kain franchise and Gex series. Until 1996, Crystal Dynamics has mostly been developing games for the 3DO system. Its 1993 debut game Crash N’ Burn was one of the console’s launch titles. The 1994 Gex was supposed to be a mascot for 3DO in the same way as Sonic was a mascot for Sega’s Mega Drive. Another important franchise in the studio’s catalog is Legacy of Kain, a cult series of action-adventure games originally developed by Silicon Knights. In 2006 the studio finished development of Tomb Raider: Legend, a reboot of the popular action-adventure series after its original creator, Core Design, lost the IP. Since the release of Legend, the studio has been exclusively making games in this franchise.
