Aspyr, a studio known for porting and reviving classic Tomb Raider titles, quietly released the third entry in the modern Lara Croft ‘Survivor’ trilogy for Nintendo’s Switch 2, shadow-dropping the release to coincide with the series’ 30th anniversary.
The move accompanies a special celebration trailer from Aspyr that highlights the studio’s recent work bringing Tomb Raider collections and remasters back to modern platforms and storefronts.
Aspyr framed the anniversary as a milestone for both the franchise and its original releases.
In its trailer message, the studio noted that the original Tomb Raider, released on October 25, 1996, laid the groundwork for Lara Croft to become an enduring figure in gaming and popular culture.
Aspyr emphasized that the early Tomb Raider titles have been preserved and reintroduced rather than forgotten, inviting players to revisit the series’ action-adventure roots, ancient mysteries and the moment Lara becomes the Tomb Raider the franchise celebrates today.
Alongside the Switch 2 release and trailer, Aspyr has placed a number of Tomb Raider products on sale through digital storefronts.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and the trilogy collection are listed at 10% off, with additional discounts applied to Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider and the studio’s retro Tomb Raider collections on the eShop and other platforms, per Aspyr’s announcement.
Looking beyond the anniversary, studio and publisher disclosures name multiple upcoming Tomb Raider projects.
Crystal Dynamics is collaborating with Flying Wild Hog and Amazon Game Studios on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, described as a reimagining of the original game and scheduled to arrive on Switch 2 and additional platforms in February next year.
Crystal Dynamics has also confirmed work on a new mainline title, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which the studio lists with a 2028 release window.
What this means for Nintendo platforms: the Switch family continues to be a target for both remasters and new entries in AAA franchises, with the Switch 2 receiving timed releases and ports alongside PC and other console launches.
For players and industry observers, Aspyr’s anniversary activity underscores ongoing commercial interest in legacy brands and the persistent market for curated collections, definitive editions and platform-specific releases.
