Description

SEGA and development powerhouse Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio are setting the stage for another landmark year in the Yakuza franchise, announcing Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 alongside multiple other platforms.

Officially revealed during RGG Summit 2025, this anticipated remaster is set to launch on February 12, 2026, with digital pre-orders available immediately and physical pre-orders to follow in the coming days. Yakuza Kiwami 3 was originally released for PlayStation 3 in 2009 and marked a pivotal chapter in the crime drama saga.

In this new iteration, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has fully revitalized the classic with advanced visuals and modern technologies tailored for a contemporary audience.

The cityscape of Okinawa is rendered with exceptional detail, offering fans an immersive return through intense, updated battle sequences, an expanded collection of minigames, and additional cinematic cutscenes that inject a deeper layer of storytelling. Kazuma Kiryu, the legendary protagonist, once again takes center stage—this time, the stakes are higher as he continues his relentless pursuit to protect those closest to him.

The evolved experience not only preserves the core of what made Yakuza 3 notable but also introduces a compelling new narrative with the inclusion of Dark Ties. Dark Ties offers players a fresh perspective by spotlighting Yoshitaka Mine, a memorable adversary from the Yakuza universe.

The storyline follows Mine's transformation from a venture company founder to a full-fledged yakuza, driven by personal loss and a quest to fill the void in his life.

Through intersecting journeys of both Kiryu and Mine, the game explores themes of loyalty, fate, and redemption, promising dramatic narrative intersections and character development. This announcement further strengthens the Yakuza series' presence on the Nintendo ecosystem.

Following the Switch eShop debut of Yakuza Kiwami last October and the subsequent release of Yakuza 0: Director's Cut on Switch 2, SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have been methodically expanding the franchise’s reach.

Upcoming releases of Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 for Switch 2 are slated for November, with both titles also receiving physical game-key card editions. With Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio continues its commitment to delivering premium, story-rich experiences for new and veteran fans alike.

The return to Okinawa, bolstered by modern enhancements and fresh narrative angles, ensures that the Yakuza series remains a cornerstone of contemporary gaming as it leaps onto next-generation hardware like the Nintendo Switch 2.
