SEGA’s critically acclaimed action-adventure title, Yakuza Kiwami 2, is officially making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2, with both physical and digital releases scheduled for November 13, 2025, in Japan.
This marks a significant milestone for the Yakuza series, as fans of Nintendo’s next-generation hardware will soon experience one of the franchise’s most beloved chapters in an enhanced format.
Originally developed by SEGA’s Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a complete remake of the PlayStation 2 classic, Yakuza 2.
The game follows Kazuma Kiryu, the iconic Dragon of Dojima, as he navigates the intense power struggle between Tokyo’s Tojo Clan and Osaka’s Omi Alliance.
At the heart of the narrative is Kiryu’s confrontation with Ryuji Goda, known as the Dragon of Kansai, setting the stage for a dramatic and action-packed clash that has captivated fans since its original release.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 leverages SEGA’s highly acclaimed Dragon Engine, delivering a modern gameplay experience with striking visuals and improved mechanics.
For its arrival on the Nintendo Switch 2, SEGA has confirmed that the game will feature stunning 4K resolution and unlocked frame rates, ensuring that players will enjoy the most visually impressive version of the title to date on a Nintendo platform.
In a statement, SEGA representatives emphasized their commitment to expanding the Yakuza series to new audiences and hardware.
"Bringing Yakuza Kiwami 2 to the Nintendo Switch 2 reflects our dedication to delivering extraordinary experiences to as many players as possible," SEGA noted.
This release not only introduces the acclaimed story of Kazuma Kiryu to Nintendo fans but also highlights the capabilities of the Switch 2 in delivering high-fidelity, narrative-driven games previously reserved for more powerful home hardware.
Yakuza Kiwami 2’s debut on Switch 2 adds another major third-party title to the console’s growing software library.
The game will be available both physically and via the Nintendo eShop, giving fans the choice of their preferred format.
While the initial launch is set for Japan, the Yakuza franchise has built a strong and dedicated international following, reflecting the global appeal of SEGA’s flagship series.
With over a decade of critical and commercial success, the Yakuza series remains one of SEGA’s most important properties, noted for its deep storytelling, engaging characters, and immersive recreations of Japanese city life.
The addition of Yakuza Kiwami 2 to the Nintendo Switch 2 platform is poised to set a new benchmark for what players can expect from action-adventure games on Nintendo’s next-generation console.
As the release date approaches, Switch 2 owners and Yakuza fans alike can look forward to revisiting — or experiencing for the first time — the legendary battle between the Dragon of Dojima and the Dragon of Kansai in a definitive, next-level format.
