Description

SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have officially unveiled Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, confirming its exclusive release for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 platform.

This definitive edition of the critically acclaimed 2015 action-adventure serves as the origin story for the long-running Yakuza series, now enhanced and expanded to take full advantage of Nintendo’s next-generation hardware. Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut introduces significant new content even for longtime fans.

According to SEGA, players will experience never-before-seen story scenes that delve deeper into the dramatic events and character arcs at the heart of the series.

Around 26 minutes of additional cutscenes—originally cut from the first release—will further explore pivotal interactions, including moments between fan favorites Kiryu and Nishiki, Kiryu and Kuze, as well as Majima with a mysterious new character.

These supplements aim to provide heightened context and meaning for existing and new players alike. A major new addition is the "Red Light Raid" mode, a robust online multiplayer feature debuting with the Switch 2 edition.

This mode enables players to unlock up to 60 playable characters and cooperate with friends in tackling waves of dangerous foes.

Notably, SEGA confirms that Red Light Raid can also be played solo, accommodating both competitive and lone players interested in the franchise’s distinct brawler action. Supporting its global audience, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut includes expanded voice options and localization.

English and Chinese voice-overs are now available alongside subtitles in French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese, streamlining accessibility for series newcomers worldwide.

In a recent showcase, fans were given a glimpse of the English-language performances for iconic protagonists Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. From a technical standpoint, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut leverages the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2.

SEGA details that the game will run at 4K resolution and a smooth 60 frames per second when played in docked mode, marking a considerable visual and performance upgrade from previous console versions. These enhancements, combined with newly developed content, position Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut as a standout exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch lineup.

With SEGA reaffirming its commitment to the Switch family, this release not only revisits a fan favorite but also showcases the future technical potential of Nintendo’s next hardware generation.
