Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Arrives on Nintendo Switch With Special Tetris 99 Maximus Cup Event

Nintendo fans have a lot to look forward to this month as the company brings Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition to the Nintendo Switch platform.

Developed by Monolith Soft, the highly anticipated remaster of the classic Wii U RPG delivers enhanced visuals and performance, providing an opportunity for newcomers and longtime fans alike to experience the sprawling world of Mira on modern hardware. In celebration of the game's release, Nintendo is launching a brand-new Tetris 99 Maximus Cup event dedicated to Xenoblade Chronicles X.

This special event will run from March 14 to March 18, 2025, providing a unique chance for players to unlock an exclusive Xenoblade-themed Tetris 99 aesthetic by accumulating 100 event points during online matches.

To participate in the Maximus Cup, players must have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, as Tetris 99 is available exclusively through this service on the Switch eShop. Adding further excitement, the announcement of the Xenoblade Chronicles X-themed Maximus Cup follows a string of recent major events in Tetris 99.

Recently, players enjoyed Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom themes, reflecting Nintendo's trend of honoring key franchise releases within its competitive puzzle title. Nintendo continues to support the Tetris legacy on Switch, recently expanding its offering of classic Tetris titles within the Switch Online app to mark the Tetris anniversary.

The company’s Tetris Forever collection also received a content update, introducing two additional titles to Switch Online users who celebrate the series’ enduring popularity. According to Nintendo, players who participate in the Maximus Cup and earn the required 100 points can permanently unlock the Xenoblade Chronicles X theme for Tetris 99, adding new visuals and audio inspired by the iconic RPG.

This event provides a crossover celebration of both franchises and invites members of the Xenoblade community—as well as Tetris veterans—to mark the return of this Monolith Soft epic on Nintendo’s hybrid console. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition joins a growing roster of critically acclaimed JRPGs now playable on Nintendo Switch, further cementing the platform as a premier destination for the genre.
