Description

Monolith Soft, the acclaimed Nintendo developer best known for the Xenoblade Chronicles series, has reported a remarkable 19% increase in profits for the fiscal year ending March 2025.

According to figures reported by Game Biz and highlighted by Nintendo Everything, Monolith Soft saw profits climb to 487 million yen, up from 409 million yen the previous year.

This fiscal milestone was notably driven by the launch of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch, consolidating every mainline Xenoblade title onto a single platform for the first time. Founded in 1999, Monolith Soft has been instrumental in shaping Nintendo's RPG portfolio.

The release of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition marked a significant moment for fans and the developer alike, as it enabled newcomers and veterans to experience the franchise’s core titles on the Nintendo Switch.

This strategic release has bolstered Monolith Soft’s financial performance and reinforced its status as a key first-party studio in Nintendo’s stable. Alongside its flagship RPGs, Monolith Soft is celebrated for significant contributions to other major Nintendo franchises.

The developer has supported the development of Mario Kart World for the anticipated Switch 2 hardware, contributed level design and technical solutions for Splatoon 3, and played an integral role in crafting the expansive world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

These collaborations underscore Monolith Soft’s reputation for versatility and technical prowess within the industry. Despite this year’s robust profit increase, Monolith Soft’s latest results do not surpass its peak performance.

In 2021, the studio achieved a record profit of nearly 1,200 million yen, establishing a high benchmark within the company’s financial history.

The current fiscal results, while optimistic, show there remains room to recapture those record highs as the video game market evolves. Recent financial data also hints at strong hardware momentum for Nintendo.

Reports briefly surfaced on Nintendo’s official investor portal suggesting sales of 5 million Switch 2 consoles since launch, but the company has since removed this figure.

While the exact nature of the number remains unconfirmed, it is believed to reflect internal projections or preliminary sales data. As the Nintendo Switch enters its twilight years and anticipation builds for the successor hardware, Monolith Soft’s sustained success—driven by portfolio expansion and critical contributions to flagship Nintendo franchises—positions the company for continued influence and growth.

The impressive profit gains, anchored by the enduring popularity of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, reaffirm Monolith Soft’s status as a cornerstone of Nintendo’s creative and commercial strategy.
