Nintendo has released an overview trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, an enhanced version of the original 2017 Nintendo Switch JRPG developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo.

The remaster brings visual and performance upgrades alongside new playable content, and is scheduled to launch digitally on July 30 with a physical edition following on October 1.

Background and release schedule

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 originally launched in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch and helped establish Monolith Soft as a leading developer of large-scale JRPGs on Nintendo platforms.

Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will arrive digitally on July 30, with a separate physical release planned for October 1 for players who prefer boxed copies.

Performance and upgrade pack details

According to Nintendo's overview, purchasing the upgrade pack will enable enhanced performance modes for the remaster.

Players who buy the upgrade will be able to run the game at 4K/60fps in TV mode or 1080p/60fps in handheld mode.

The company also outlined that the package expands the original experience with additional content and gameplay features.

New content and gameplay additions

Nintendo detailed several additions exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

New outfit designs for the central characters Pyra and Mythra have been added.

A Merc Assault mode allows players to directly control up to six Blades in tactical combat, changing how battles are approached compared with the base game.

The remaster also introduces a rare Blade named MOMO, who can switch between light and dark forms, offering new customization and combat options.

What this means for players

For existing owners of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the original Nintendo Switch, the upgrade pack offers a path to higher-resolution visuals and smoother frame rates on Nintendo's next-generation hardware.

Newcomers who do not already own the game can opt to purchase the upcoming physical edition when it lands in October.

Monolith Soft's work on the original title cemented Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as a major entry in Nintendo's JRPG catalog, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition aims to update that experience for players seeking improved performance and fresh content.
