Since its debut on the original PlayStation in 1995, the WipEout franchise, developed by Psygnosis, has captivated players with not only its high-speed gameplay but also a unique musical identity shaped in large part by in-house composer Tim 'CoLD SToRAGE' Wright. Known for his seminal contributions to the first WipEout’s iconic audio experience, Tim Wright’s influence stretches across multiple entries in the series.

While WipEout collaborated with global electronic acts such as The Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, and Orbital, it is Wright’s visionary compositions that established the franchise’s signature sound.

In 2023, Wright commemorated his legacy with the release of The Zero Gravity Soundtrack—a carefully curated album reviving and celebrating his contributions to the gaming world. Building on the momentum, Tim Wright now unveils The Zero Gravity Soundtrack Vol.

This new 22-track album ventures further into the atmospheric realms synonymous with WipEout.

According to Lapsus Records, Wright’s latest collection explores deeper territory, featuring unreleased tracks, alternative mixes, and ambient reworkings.

These compositions, described by Wright as transforming "pure velocity into wide-screen atmospherics,” are designed to capture the feeling of rapid racing, the hum of airbrakes, and the immersive intervals between crucial checkpoints. Volume 2 uniquely reconnects with WipEout’s storied history by including selections and versions from later chapters in the series, notably WipE′out″ HD and WipE′out″ Pure.

Some alternative mixes spotlight rare tracks, previously only available in Sega Saturn versions of the franchise, offering both nostalgia and discovery for longtime fans. In a testament to the lasting impact of WipEout and its music, Wright has collaborated with contemporary artists such as Tim Reaper, SHERELLE, Mantra, and NikNak for this project.

Their involvement bridges the original vision of CoLD SToRAGE with modern breakbeat and drum & bass styles, expanding the boundaries of game audio into new territory.

Lapsus Records notes that the album seeks to "forge connections between the pioneering musical style of CoLD SToRAGE, the sound universe of WipEout, and the modern drum & bass movement." The Zero Gravity Soundtrack Vol.

2 is available for pre-order with five preview tracks already released.

Physical editions, including a deluxe 3-disc vinyl set and a 2-disc CD package, will be released for collectors and audiophiles alike.
