WipEout 2048, the antigravity racer developed by Studio Liverpool and released as a PlayStation Vita launch title in March 2012, has had its online multiplayer restored by the fan-led AG Racing Foundation.
The community-driven restoration uses the foundation’s Thallium + Beat revival servers to bring previously unavailable online features back to life for players with copies of the game.
According to an announcement shared on Reddit by ThatOneBonk, co-owner of the AG Racing Foundation, players can once again access WipEout 2048’s Online Campaign, earn online trophies and pursue the game’s platinum trophy.
The foundation explained that WipEout 2048 shares server infrastructure with WipEout HD, which previously allowed partial online functionality through the existing WipEout HD service.
However, the foundation noted that while some basic features were restored early, the game’s primary online mode—the Online Campaign—was not playable until the Thallium + Beat servers enabled full support.
The AG Racing Foundation has emphasized that setting up the revival does not require hardware modification.
Players need to adjust network settings on their PlayStation Vita and have access to the game’s Online Pass.
The foundation clarified that the Online Pass was included with every digital purchase and is printed on the back of the physical retail boxed version of WipEout 2048.
Beyond the technical restoration, the AG Racing Foundation highlighted the role of its community in sustaining the revival.
The group described itself as a long-running collective of WipEout fans that regularly organize sessions to fill lobbies in WipEout HD and now in WipEout 2048.
The foundation pointed to its weekly "2048 Campaign Tuesday" event as an opportunity for players to join others, progress through the restored Online Campaign, and experience the series’ online features again.
For players seeking step-by-step guidance, the AG Racing Foundation has published setup information on its website and provided a link to an active Discord channel where community members coordinate sessions and offer support.
The restoration comes nearly 14 years after WipEout 2048’s original release and represents a notable example of fan-driven preservation efforts for online functionality in legacy console titles.
Players interested in participating should consult the AG Racing Foundation resources for exact network configuration steps and event schedules before attempting to connect.
Happy racing.
