2ship2harkinian: Majora’s Mask PC Port Brings Enhanced Gameplay to PlayStation Vita

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask remains one of Nintendo’s most celebrated classics, originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 2000.

Over the years, fans have eagerly explored new ways to experience the game, including unofficial efforts to bring the iconic adventure to modern platforms.

The latest major development comes from the dedicated fan community, as the open-source PC port '2ship2harkinian' has now been successfully ported to the PlayStation Vita handheld, opening up enhanced gameplay options for a new audience. Initially released on May 27, 2024, by the development group Harbour Masters, 2ship2harkinian is an unofficial, natively compiled port of Majora’s Mask for PC.

This version followed closely on the heels of Mr-WiseGuy’s Zelda64Recomp, which launched on May 10, 2024.

While Zelda64Recomp utilized 'N64: Recompiled' technology to statically recompile the game, 2ship2harkinian benefitted from an extensive reverse-engineering process.

This enabled the developers to pursue more ambitious and scalable features not easily attainable with simple recompilation, setting a new standard for community-driven preservation and enhancement projects. The PlayStation Vita port, a new chapter in the project's expanding legacy, was developed and released by homebrew developer Rinnegatamante.

Version 1.0 debuted on the Vita on April 12, 2026, allowing users to run Majora’s Mask natively on the handheld device.

However, early adopters identified control and mapping issues—specifically with shoulder button functionality—which led to community feedback.

Responding quickly, Rinnegatamante rolled out version 1.1 on April 14, 2026.

This update fixed the reported problems, addressing button mapping, several bugs, and motion blur effects, resulting in a much smoother gameplay experience for Vita users. Built atop the 1.1.2 “Satoko Charlie” baseline from December 2024, the Vita port of 2ship2harkinian also incorporates a robust range of enhancements and quality-of-life features not present in the original N64 release.

These additions include faster mask transformations, a cutscene skip option, the ability to play as Kafei—a non-playable character in the original—as well as optional cheats for infinite health, rupees, magic, consumables, and more.

Additionally, the port supports various mods, inviting further customization and replayability for fans seeking to experience Majora’s Mask in new ways. As with previous builds, users are required to supply their own legitimate N64 game files to comply with intellectual property considerations.

This approach ensures the community-driven project remains respectful of Nintendo’s original work, even as it offers significant enhancements and accessibility improvements for modern hardware. The fan-led effort behind 2ship2harkinian continues to demonstrate the passion and technical skill of the gaming community, bringing beloved titles like The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask to platforms far beyond their original reach.

By embracing open-source collaboration, supporting modern features, and responding to user feedback, projects like these not only preserve gaming history but reinvigorate it for new generations of players.
