Nearly two decades after its original PlayStation 2 debut, the much-celebrated Namco × Capcom soundtrack by esteemed composer Yuzo Koshiro is finally making its way to streaming platforms.
Released exclusively in Japan in 2005, Namco × Capcom is a crossover role-playing game developed by Monolith Soft that brought together a vast cast of characters from Namco and Capcom’s legendary franchises.
While the title itself never officially launched outside Japan, its cult following has persisted thanks to its innovative gameplay, memorable score, and its spiritual successors, the Project X Zone series on the Nintendo 3DS.
On April 11, 2024, select original tracks from Namco × Capcom—including the much-loved opening and ending themes by Koshiro—will become available on major music streaming services.
"We appreciate everyone's patience.
After nearly 20 years since the game launched in 2005, we're excited to finally offer these songs for streaming,” Koshiro announced through official channels.
This long-awaited release will present the opening theme, ‘The Wonderful New World,’ in long, short, and instrumental "Off Vocal" versions.
The ending piece, ‘Someday, Surely, Under the Moonlight,’ will also be accessible in its extended and instrumental formats.
Namco × Capcom was a significant project for Monolith Soft, featuring not only Koshiro’s compositions but also notable contributions from Soichiro Morizumi, Takuji Kawano, Kazue Saito, and Kazunori Haruyama.
While the majority of the original soundtrack consists of arranged pieces referencing the many franchises represented in the game, Koshiro’s fresh opening and ending themes have become standout favorites among game music enthusiasts.
Although the game never saw an official English release or digital launch on platforms like the PlayStation Network or Nintendo eShop, its influence extended worldwide.
Dedicated fans produced an unofficial English translation in 2008, and the crossover concept was expanded internationally with the Project X Zone series on Nintendo 3DS, which was localized for Western markets.
This streaming release marks a rare opportunity for both longtime fans and new listeners to experience Yuzo Koshiro’s iconic compositions outside of the game itself.
It further underlines the lasting legacy of Namco × Capcom and celebrates the collaborative achievements of Monolith Soft, Namco, and Capcom during the PlayStation 2 era.
