The sequel—set a few months after the original The Wolf Among Us and continuing the franchise rooted in the Fables comic books—will ship in 2027 on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
Built in Unreal Engine, the new entry promises both technical and design changes from the original Telltale formula.
Background and context
The Wolf Among Us originally served as a prequel to the Fables comics, following Bigby Wolf as he protects the hidden community of fairytale characters living in modern-day New York City.
The sequel keeps that foundation intact but advances the timeline only slightly, showing visual updates to Bigby—including a new jacket—and setting up a detective-led story focused on a serial-killer investigation.
Telltale’s current team includes some returning developers and voice talent alongside new staff, and the project is being developed with partners PM Studios and Warner Bros.
Gameplay and design changes observed
In the Gamescom demo, Telltale representatives said exploration and movement had been overhauled.
The game now uses an over-the-shoulder camera to make navigation and clue-gathering feel more natural compared with the original’s more awkward movement.
Voice cast continuity is a priority: Adam Harrington returns to reprise Bigby, and several original cast members and creative leads—including the cinematic director—are back on board.
New characters were introduced in the demo, notably detective Faye, who teams with Bigby during the apartment investigation.
Paraphrased statements from the development team
Telltale’s design director Jessica Hara Campbell and principal scene coordinator Leslie Harwood explained that the team is targeting a total runtime similar to the first game and intends to release all episodes at once rather than episodic drops.
They confirmed there are no current plans for DLC, that the shift to an over-the-shoulder perspective is deliberate, and that their goal is to balance familiar series elements with fresh systems and presentation.
The team also said the sequel is designed to stand alone—new players won’t need to have played the original to follow the story—while including Easter eggs for returning fans.
Technical notes and release information
The Wolf Among Us 2 is being developed in Unreal Engine, an evolution from the original engine, and the demo shown at Gamescom was an early build.
Telltale reiterated the all-episodes release strategy and said there is hope to expand the series if this entry succeeds.
Official release is slated for 2027 on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
For context on the franchise’s recent history, Telltale released The Wolf Among Us Remastered prior to this sequel.
