Eidos-Montréal’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest AAA title to arrive on handheld-capable hardware, with a Nintendo Switch 2 port that invites direct comparison to the PlayStation 5 release.

The action-adventure game — which launched on current-generation consoles and PC in 2021 and won Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2021 — now appears in a version built specifically for Nintendo’s next hardware, offering two graphical presets and an exclusive Encore Edition bundle.

According to a recent graphics comparison and our own review, the Nintendo Switch 2 port provides two selectable modes.

Quality Mode targets 1440p with a 30 frames-per-second cap, while Performance Mode runs at 1080p aiming for 40 frames per second.

In practice, however, the Switch 2 build shows mixed results on the performance front: Quality Mode can struggle to consistently hit the 30 FPS cap, even in scenes with limited combat, and Performance Mode can dip into the low 30s during more demanding moments.

Those observations mirror the timing and frame-rate behavior captured in side-by-side video comparisons with the PlayStation 5 version.

Graphically, the Switch 2 release retains much of the visual fidelity expected from Eidos-Montréal’s original build.

The developer appears to have made relatively few cuts to textures and effects to bring the game to Nintendo’s platform, and overall image quality compares favorably in static scenes.

Where the Switch 2 diverges most from the PS5 experience is frame pacing and peak performance during action sequences.

Eidos-Montréal and the publisher have also bundled an Encore Edition exclusive to Switch 2.

That edition adds a themed costume pack dressing Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot in 1980s glam rock outfits.

Feature notes for the port highlight handheld-capable play, refined controls, and the ability to play on the go via the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware and on the Nintendo eShop.

Players interested in the technical differences should consult the full graphics comparison video and our review for frame-rate captures and more granular testing.

The Switch 2 port is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, November 5; the game will be available via the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2.

For developers and platform-watchers, this release underscores the practical trade-offs studios make when moving high-profile narrative-driven titles to portable-capable consoles.
