Digital Extremes continues to deliver robust updates for Warframe, one of the most popular free-to-play action titles on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
Earlier this month, the studio officially confirmed that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Warframe is in active development, further expanding the game's reach to Nintendo's next-generation hardware.
Warframe has built a strong legacy since its original release in 2013 and subsequent arrival on Nintendo Switch in November 2018.
Now, Digital Extremes is leveraging the increased power and capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2 to enhance the player experience.
In a recent developer livestream, the team at Digital Extremes unveiled the first gameplay footage from the Nintendo Switch 2 build, offering fans a closer look at what to expect from this anticipated upgrade.
The showcased footage demonstrated significant improvements over the current Nintendo Switch version.
Viewers were shown notably faster load times, higher shading quality, enhanced graphical fidelity, and a smoother gameplay experience thanks to a more stable frame rate.
Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair discussed these enhancements during the stream, emphasizing that load times are now much shorter on the Switch 2 version compared to its predecessor.
He also underlined that the new version of Warframe is designed to run at 60 frames per second in docked mode—a marked improvement over the original Switch release.
"With the advanced hardware we're working with, players can expect noticeably reduced loading times and a consistently higher frame rate, leading to a more immersive and visually stunning experience," Sinclair explained during the presentation (paraphrased for clarity).
While this update excites the Warframe community, a specific release date for Warframe on Nintendo Switch 2 has not yet been announced.
Digital Extremes reassured fans that further details will be shared as development progresses.
Warframe's ongoing expansion to new platforms and consistent gameplay enhancements have helped it maintain strong engagement on the eShop and among Nintendo players.
As the Nintendo Switch 2 approaches, Digital Extremes' commitment to technical improvements, like improved FPS and loading times, reaffirms its reputation as a leading live-service developer in the gaming industry.
