Gurei Release Date Confirmed for Nintendo Switch — Digital Launch on 23 July 2026

Astrolabe Games and Lobo Sagaz Studio have confirmed that Gurei will launch digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 23 July 2026.

The upcoming action title places players in the role of Rei, a human spirit bound to hunt powerful Kami—ancient entities of nature inspired by Japanese mythology—inside a surreal castle that sits between the human and spirit realms.

Developers characterize Gurei as an unforgiving action game built around precise, choice-driven combat paired with hand-drawn art and fluid animation.

The studio says the structure lets players challenge the Kami in any order, with a dynamic difficulty system that adapts enemy strength based on the route a player chooses.

In other words, the same Kami encountered at the start of one run could serve as a late-game test in another, depending on the sequence of fights.

Key gameplay features outlined by the publisher include a dynamic difficulty system that ties enemy scaling to the player’s chosen path; a combat suite that expands as Rei absorbs powers from defeated Kami; and a narrative layer of encounters with mythic characters that appear as Rei moves deeper into the spirit world.

After each victory, Rei gains a new ability—ranging from enhanced mobility and offensive tools to healing or execute-style mechanics—broadening the player’s tactical options.

The developers emphasize player choice as a core design pillar.

With distinctly patterned bosses and unique skills granted after each defeat, players can tailor their approach across multiple runs and experiment with different ability combinations.

Beyond combat, defeated Kami remain with Rei and contribute personality and commentary, offering both lore insight and occasional comic relief while populating side objectives and hidden secrets throughout the castle.

Gurei’s confirmed 23 July 2026 Nintendo eShop release places it squarely on the Nintendo Switch platform, where digital-only launches and indie director-led projects have found a substantial audience.

A trailer accompanied the announcement and the publisher has provided a feature breakdown intended to guide players ahead of launch.

For players tracking new Switch action releases and titles inspired by Japanese mythology, Gurei is now scheduled for a late July arrival.
