Mario Tennis Fever Slips in UK Charts as Switch 2 Sales Bolster Cyberpunk 2077 and Reanimal

The latest GfK-compiled UK boxed game charts offer a revealing snapshot of current Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 trends, highlighting the continued dominance of certain franchises and notable shifts in new release performance.

As the UK gaming market heads into the summer, Nintendo's latest title, Mario Tennis Fever, has experienced a significant drop in rankings after a strong debut last week.

This serves as a key indicator of the ever-competitive landscape for Nintendo-published software and multi-platform blockbusters vying for chart positions each week. Mario Tennis Fever originally entered the charts at number two but now finds itself at seventh place after just two weeks on the market.

Its slide comes as enduring franchises such as EA Sports FC 26, Mario Kart World, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and the ever-present Minecraft maintain their stronghold over UK consumers.

This week, EA Sports FC 26 remains the undisputed leader, with PlayStation 5 (47%) and Switch (24%) accounting for most sales, while the recently launched Switch 2 delivers a growing share (6%). Meanwhile, indie horror standout Reanimal from Tarsier Studios has climbed to an impressive third place, buoyed by strong interest in its Switch 2 version, which contributed 20% of the game's physical sales this week.

This reflects an increasing appetite for third-party and indie titles on Nintendo's refreshed hardware.

In a statement distributed to media, a GfK spokesperson noted that "platform breakdowns underscore the growing significance of Switch 2 in key multi-platform releases." Another notable move comes from Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.

After re-entering the top 10, it now sits at ninth place, with its recent Switch 2 port leading the way—53% of all physical copies sold this week were for Nintendo's new platform, compared to 33% on PC and smaller splits across other consoles.

This uptick for CD Projekt's sci-fi epic highlights the widening appeal of blockbuster titles on Nintendo's hardware, especially post-launch updates and re-releases optimized for Switch 2's improved specs. Elsewhere in the charts, mainstays like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A demonstrate persistent demand for Nintendo's core franchises.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A exhibited an almost even split between Switch (51%) and Switch 2 (49%), illustrating how quickly the new hardware is becoming integrated into the everyday choices of UK gamers. The full top 40 also reveals broad platform support for both Nintendo consoles and competing systems such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.

New entrants like Sonic Racing CrossWorlds and Star Wars Outlaws are already performing well across multiple platforms, with Switch 2 often ranking as a major contributor to overall sales. This week’s UK charts again underline Nintendo’s ongoing strength in software sales, with forthcoming releases likely to further impact the balance as Switch 2 adoption accelerates.
