The start of 2025 brings another impressive showcase for Nintendo Switch, as new video game sales data confirms the platform’s enduring appeal in the latest charts published by market tracker GfK.

With best-selling mainstays and fresh entries alike, Nintendo’s hybrid console continues to capture players’ attention well into the new year. Industry veterans won’t be surprised to see familiar franchises performing well across multiple platforms.

According to GfK’s first sales chart of 2025 (covering up to January 3rd), Hogwarts Legacy retained the top position, capturing 48% of its sales on Nintendo Switch, followed by EA Sports FC 25, which also saw significant uptake from Switch users at 28%.

Notably, FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed Elden Ring climbed back into third place, maintaining its strong performance following its original release in 2022. Within the top ten, a robust selection of Nintendo Switch games underscores the platform’s enduring dominance.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a consistent top seller since its 2017 release, continues to enjoy high sales, reaffirming its status as a must-have for Switch owners.

Super Mario Party Jamboree and Nintendo Switch Sports also maintained strong positions, further demonstrating Nintendo’s effective stewardship of its flagship franchises.

Minecraft, always a heavyweight, remained in the top tier thanks to cross-generational appeal and consistent content updates. Perhaps most notably, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom experienced a notable surge this week, returning to the top 20 after falling short in previous weeks.

This new installment has reinvigorated fan interest in the iconic adventure series, mirroring previous launches which have traditionally driven hardware sales and maintained user engagement on the Nintendo Switch platform. Additionally, classic favorites Super Smash Bros.

Ultimate and Pokémon Scarlet made their way back into the top 40, reinforcing the trend that Nintendo’s evergreen titles maintain strong momentum years after launch.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Mario Bros.

Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom all secured placements in the top 40, a testament to the continued vitality of first-party offerings on the platform. Commenting on the latest figures, the report from GfK highlights, “Nintendo Switch software consistently holds several of the top chart positions, driven by demand for both established and new releases.” With the Switch entering its eighth year, these results affirm the platform's incredible longevity and the success of Nintendo’s ongoing digital and retail strategies.

The first 2025 sales charts paint a clear picture: Nintendo Switch, buoyed by timeless hits and innovative new entries, remains a dominant force as the gaming industry embarks on another year.
