Ubisoft Steps Away from E3 2023, Announces Ubisoft Forward Live Event in Los Angeles
After years of being a fixture at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Ubisoft has confirmed it will forgo attending E3 2023.
Instead, the renowned French game developer and publisher will stage its own Ubisoft Forward Live event in Los Angeles on June 12, 2023.
This move marks a significant shift for both Ubisoft and the broader video game industry as major brands reassess their presence at one of gaming's most iconic trade shows.
In a recent announcement provided to Video Games Chronicle (VGC), Ubisoft addressed its decision to skip the much-anticipated E3 2023.
Reflecting on its strategy, a Ubisoft spokesperson stated that while the company originally planned an official appearance at E3, it has now chosen "to move in a different direction." The publisher emphasized its intention to connect directly with players through its own exclusive showcase, the Ubisoft Forward Live event, scheduled for June 12 in Los Angeles.
Ubisoft added, "We look forward to sharing more details with our players very soon."
Ubisoft's decision to withdraw from E3 2023 follows similar announcements made by other industry giants.
Earlier this year, both Nintendo and Xbox confirmed their absence from this year's E3, with Xbox planning to host its own games showcase in parallel.
Nintendo has yet to publicly outline its 2023 event roadmap, leaving fans and industry stakeholders alike eager for further updates.
These high-profile withdrawals underscore a broader transformation in the landscape of gaming expos, with more publishers favoring self-produced and streamed presentations, such as the widely recognized Nintendo Direct reads and Xbox Games Showcase.
Despite these changes, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which manages E3, reaffirmed its commitment to the event in a statement made in February 2023.
ReedPop, the organizer behind E3 2023, has not yet commented on Ubisoft's recent departure but continues preparations for the expo.
Ubisoft’s showcase history includes major reveals for best-selling franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Just Dance, and Rainbow Six.
The Ubisoft Forward Live event is expected to feature new announcements and updates across the company’s portfolio, which spans popular platforms including the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
With digital events becoming increasingly central to the gaming announcement calendar, Ubisoft’s strategic shift promises direct engagement with fans and global accessibility.
The next few months will be crucial for E3 and the future of large-scale games industry events.
As companies like Ubisoft and Xbox pioneer their own showcases, the role and format of traditional trade shows are poised for continued evolution.
For now, fans and industry professionals alike can mark their calendars for June 12, when Ubisoft takes the spotlight during its Forward Live event in Los Angeles.
