SEGA used Sonic the Hedgehog’s 35th birthday to reveal two substantial compilations under the Sonic 35th Anniversary Project: Classic Sonic Collection and Modern Sonic Collection.

The announcement, published in a SEGA press release, confirms both compilations will release for Nintendo Switch and are playable on Switch 2.

SEGA positioned the two collections as a way to showcase the franchise’s long-running legacy across classic 2D and modern 3D eras.

Classic Sonic Collection

According to SEGA’s announcement, the Classic Sonic Collection centers on the franchise’s earlier, 2D-style titles.

The collection’s listed inclusions are Sonic Origins, Sonic Mania, and Sonic Superstars.

SEGA said the Classic compilation is focused on “Classic Sonic,” collecting titles that emphasize the original gameplay style.

The company also confirmed a physical edition that will include special 35th Anniversary reversible cover art and a commemorative logo patch.

The press release specifies a launch window and price for this edition, stating the Classic Sonic Collection will launch in October 2026 with a suggested retail price of $49.99.

Modern Sonic Collection

SEGA’s press release frames the Modern Sonic Collection as a showcase of the series’ contemporary 3D entries.

The release lists Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Colors: Ultimate among the compilation’s inclusions.

The document also contains a duplication that lists Sonic Frontiers twice.

SEGA noted that the Modern Sonic Collection will likewise offer a physical edition with 35th Anniversary reversible cover art and a logo patch, but it did not provide a firm street date for this package.

Release platforms and timing

SEGA’s announcement confirms both compilations are planned for Nintendo Switch and are playable on Switch 2.

The press release indicates an October release window; however, only the Classic Sonic Collection is given a specific month and price in the statement.

SEGA has not yet published a complete launch schedule or detailed digital storefront plans.

SEGA’s Sonic 35th Anniversary Project continues to bundle legacy content for longstanding and new audiences.

For further updates, SEGA’s official press channels will carry any confirmed release dates and additional collection details.
