Description

Tomb Raider, the Iconic Saturn and PlayStation Classic, Gets an Unofficial Amiga Revival The legendary adventure game Tomb Raider, originally developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive for the Sega Saturn and PlayStation, has made an unexpected appearance on another beloved retro platform—the Commodore Amiga.

Renowned homebrew developer BSzili, known for bringing unofficial ports of titles like Blood, Wolfenstein 3D, and Shadow Warrior to the Amiga, has released a new proof-of-concept demo that breathes fresh life into Lara Croft's original escapade on classic hardware. As reported by IndieRetroNews, BSzili announced the demo last week on the English Amiga Board, sharing details about its development process.

He revealed that the port only required a few days to assemble, drawing from the Game Boy Advance and 32X iterations of OpenLara—an open source engine first developed by XProger to facilitate recreations of the original Tomb Raider.

The demo, which is now available for download to the retro gaming community, marks another creative milestone in the Amiga's vibrant homebrew scene. While BSzili provided no detailed hardware specifications with the demo, early testers have documented their experiences on YouTube.

The footage illustrates the demo running smoothly on emulators like Winuae under 030 configuration settings and offers varying performance on enhanced Amiga 1200 models, both with PiStorm CM4 2.2GHz accelerators and standard setups at 030/40MHz.

The initial version currently focuses on the first level and does not include sound support, but nevertheless demonstrates impressive progress given its rapid development timeline. In an update posted to the English Amiga Boards, BSzili described the project as a 'call to action' for the retro development community.

He noted that while he hasn't committed to expanding the project further, he is actively seeking collaborators with rasterizer expertise, indicating potential for greater ambitions with this Tomb Raider Amiga adaptation. Fans interested in exploring this unique slice of gaming history can download the proof-of-concept demo directly from the English Amiga Board threads or through IndieRetroNews.

BSzili's efforts continue to inspire classic hardware enthusiasts, reinforcing the Amiga's enduring role in the retro gaming landscape.
