Earlier this year, the iconic explorer Lara Croft reemerged on modern hardware with the launch of Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered.
This collection, featuring enhanced versions of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, was released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Developed by Aspyr, the remastered trilogy was widely welcomed by fans for preserving classic gameplay while enhancing visuals and introducing quality-of-life improvements.
Now, just a few months after launch, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered has received its inaugural patch, further refining player experience across all platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.
Aspyr shared the full patch notes on its official website, outlining a comprehensive suite of upgrades, fixes, and new features.
Among the standout additions is the unlocking of new outfits for Photo Mode.
Players can now access an array of iconic looks from Lara Croft’s legendary adventures via the Outfit Selector in Tomb Raider IV and V.
Photo Mode itself receives notable upgrades, such as an “Animate” option, support for sunglasses, and facial animations for classic graphics, enriching the creativity of in-game photography.
Visual improvements form a significant part of this update.
Players can customize their experience with new brightness settings and retro filter options.
The graphics throughout all three titles benefit from improved textures, better texture blending, enhanced lighting (including flares that now illuminate the environment properly), and HD loading screens for Tomb Raider IV.
Controls and camera systems have been refined for smoother gameplay, particularly when using the Modern Controls mode.
This update brings improvements such as more predictable camera behavior near ceilings, enhanced interaction with in-game mechanics like jump switches and rope grabbing, better vehicle handling, and the removal of fixed cameras to ensure a seamless experience.
Audio and localization have also been addressed.
The music system now pauses when opening the inventory, ambient tracks are layered more appropriately, and numerous text and translation fixes improve accessibility for players around the world.
Game-specific changes are extensive:
- **Tomb Raider IV** features enhanced lighting and effects, restored lens flare, corrected environmental details (such as authentic Arabic signage in Cairo), and more consistent character models.
- **Tomb Raider V** introduces HD skyboxes, improved environmental textures, and fixes to water effects, logos, and level design integrity.
- **Tomb Raider VI** offers HD upgrades for characters and inventory items, dynamic hair physics for Lara and Kurtis, restored classic control options, streamlined performance, and fixes for major bugs such as achievement unlocking and platform stability.
Aspyr’s thorough approach demonstrates its commitment to supporting the remaster trilogy beyond launch.
As one Aspyr representative described in official communications, these updates are designed to “address fan feedback and deliver a definitive Tomb Raider experience for modern players.”
Since its release, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered has revitalized classic chapters of Lara Croft’s history for a new generation, earning praise for both its faithfulness and enhancements.
The latest patch underscores ongoing support, ensuring longevity for Tomb Raider fans on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is currently available for purchase through the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Xbox storefront, and digital PC platforms.
