Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge Fan Remake Mockups Ignite Community Enthusiasm
Originally released on the Game Boy in 1991, Konami's Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge remains a standout entry in the legendary Castlevania franchise.
Revered for its refined gameplay, remarkable visuals given the hardware’s limits, and its atmospheric soundtrack, Belmont's Revenge has consistently earned high praise from critics and fans alike.
The game exemplifies Konami’s mastery of action-platforming during the Game Boy era and continues to inspire a loyal following decades after its debut.
Recently, the Castlevania community was abuzz when acclaimed pixel artist Mário Santos, known online as @Emppixel, shared several screenshots that appeared to depict an unofficial remake of Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge.
The pixel-perfect images, co-created with collaborators @junkisakuraba, ButiaAzul, and @dougdinsdale, showcased the iconic hero, lushly reimagined environments, and fresh UI flourishes, instantly captivating fans of the series.
However, Santos quickly clarified that the images were not from an actual in-development project.
"These are not genuine screenshots," the artist explained.
"I wanted to create basic mockups for a ‘Belmont’s Revenge remake’ and seized the opportunity presented by April 1st to have some fun.
It was also a personal artistic challenge to see how swiftly I could construct them."
Though these images were only mockups, the response across social media was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting a longing among Castlevania fans for a modernized revisit of the game on platforms like the Nintendo Switch.
Some fans called attention to M2, the developer known for expertly reviving classic titles such as Castlevania: The Adventure and Haunted Castle, expressing hope that Konami might greenlight a full-fledged remake in the future.
The excitement sparked by Santos’s project underlines the lasting appeal of Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge and the appetite for updated experiences that honor the franchise's roots.
With the ongoing success of re-releases and remasters on the Nintendo Switch eShop, and Konami’s willingness to revisit its back catalog, the dream of seeing Belmont’s adventure revived for a new generation remains ever-present in the minds of players worldwide.
While these mockups are only an artist’s vision, they have undoubtedly reignited conversation about the possibilities for Castlevania on Nintendo platforms.
Whether or not Konami responds to the community’s renewed enthusiasm, it is clear that the legacy of Belmont’s Revenge endures, continuing to inspire creativity and passion among both artists and players.
