Bel's Fanfare Announced: Chibig Studio Reveals Zelda-Inspired RPG for Nintendo Switch and More

Chibig Studio, the Spanish indie developer renowned for charming adventure titles like Summer in Mara and Mika and the Witch's Mountain, has announced their latest project: Bel's Fanfare.

Revealed on January 15th via social media, this new RPG promises to blend the exploration and combat elements found in classic 3D Zelda games with intense, bullet-hell-inspired battles, presenting a unique twist for fans of action and adventure games. Bel's Fanfare is slated to follow in the footsteps of Chibig Studio's previous game, Elusive, by launching a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

According to the official pre-launch page, the Kickstarter campaign will go live on February 3rd, aiming to raise funds for final development and production. The game is currently in development for a broad range of platforms, including Nintendo Switch, the anticipated Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC via Steam.

This multi-platform launch continues Chibig's track record of supporting the Nintendo Switch, a platform on which Summer in Mara found significant success. While detailed narrative elements remain tightly held by the studio, Chibig has offered insight into the protagonist and general premise.

Players will assume the role of Bel, a small, demon-like character tasked with cleaning "aura" aboard the opulent cruise ship known as The Witch of the Sea.

In this role, Bel assists an eclectic cast of supernatural passengers in working through their spiritual traumas.

The gameplay includes the use of the Ukobach gong-shield, a versatile tool that enables puzzle-solving, aura absorption, and defense against enemy attacks—all within arenas reminiscent of the fast-paced, challenging bullet-hell genre. Chibig Studio expressed enthusiasm for their newest IP, stating that Bel's Fanfare will capture the spirit of classic adventure RPGs while introducing modern mechanics and a distinct visual flair.

Early visuals showcase lush background art and striking character designs, with some fans already noting its aesthetic resemblance to PlayStation 2-era classics. Chibig has earned a reputation for delivering heartfelt indie experiences.

Summer in Mara, released in 2020, has sold well on the Nintendo Switch eShop, and the studio's blend of storytelling and accessible gameplay has attracted a dedicated following.

With Bel's Fanfare, Chibig appears poised to build on this legacy while experimenting with new genres and systems. Bel's Fanfare is expected to make a significant impression when its Kickstarter campaign opens on February 3rd.

Gamers interested in exploring a new blend of 3D Zelda-like adventure and bullet-hell action on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation, or Steam should keep an eye on this exciting indie project from one of Spain’s most creative studios.
