SFB Games has launched The Mermaid Mask, the studio’s latest point-and-click detective adventure, on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

The game is available digitally worldwide on the Nintendo eShop and continues the Detective Grimoire series with a new locked-room mystery set aboard an eccentric submarine.

Release and platforms

The Mermaid Mask is now available on Nintendo Switch and the successor hardware Nintendo Switch 2 via the Nintendo eShop.

SFB Games positions the title as a longer and more ambitious entry in the Grimoire line, bringing hand-crafted environments and full English-language voice acting to both platforms.

Developer perspective

SFB Games creative director and technical director Tom Vian summarized the project as a long-term effort that began roughly five years ago.

Vian said development took the team in unexpected directions, including the release of an entirely different title during the work, but added that the studio feels it has achieved its original goals: The Mermaid Mask is deeper and more ambitious than previous Grimoire games and the team is proud of the result.

He expressed hope that the community would enjoy the new mystery as much as the developers enjoyed creating it.

Premise

The Mermaid Mask opens on an impossible crime: Captain Magnus Mortuga has been found dead inside his submarine in a locked room, carrying a single fatal wound with no weapon present.

The only obvious clue is an ancient, barnacle-covered cauldron that has been recently opened and left empty.

Captain Seafoam summons Detective Grimoire and his sharp‑tongued partner Sally to investigate using a cryptic letter and two photographs as their starting point.

Cast and production

Voice leads Edwyn Tiong (Loco Motive, Harold Halibut, Unavowed) and Amber Lee Connors (Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, The Outer Worlds 2) return as Detective Grimoire and Sally.

The English-language cast also includes Tara Langella, David Menkin, Steven Kearney, Justine Leah Hince, Anairis Quiñones, Eric Morgan Stuart, Jacqui Bardelang, Christy Meyer, and Alex Bankier.

Key features

- Investigate an impossible locked-room murder

- Explore a sprawling, hand-crafted submarine

- Interrogate a fully voice-acted cast of suspects

- Piece together clues to determine motive, means, and opportunity

- Layered puzzle design that encourages “aha” moments
