System 3 has reconfirmed that The James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in October 2026, with both physical and digital editions planned.

The publisher first announced the collection during its 43rd anniversary in October 2025 and provided an updated release window on August 19, 2026; Gematsu reported that the Switch 2 collector’s edition will include all game data on the physical card.

What’s included

The James Pond Legacy compiles 12 versions of four classic James Pond titles, faithfully emulated to preserve their original formats.

The collection includes:

- James Pond: Underwater Agent

- James Pond 2: RoboCod

- James Pond 3: Operation Starfish

- The Aquatic Games Starring James Pond and the Aquabats

Supported original formats listed for the collection include Amiga 500, Mega Drive/Genesis, SNES and Commodore 64.

Modern features and extras

System 3 has confirmed that the collection will include modern conveniences expected of retro compilations, such as save states and screen filters.

The package also introduces a new “Pondverse” interactive hub containing character profiles, hero and villain biographies, franchise history, level information, original packaging art and a comprehensive series timeline.

Additionally, the collection features an original studio-recorded title track called Maybe; System 3 says the song will be released on Spotify and Apple Music ahead of the game’s October launch.

Platform rollout and availability

Alongside Nintendo Switch 2 — with a digital release planned on the Nintendo eShop — System 3 has indicated the collection will also be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox platforms as part of its multi-platform rollout announced in 2025.

Developer and rights context

System 3 founder and CEO Mark Cale framed the release as an effort to preserve the series’ multiple versions and cultural elements for modern players, saying the collection was designed to safeguard “the different versions, soundtracks, artwork, and unmistakable personality that shaped the series” while giving fans new ways to explore the franchise.

Separately, the James Pond IP situation remains split between rights holders: Gameware Europe is developing a separate project, James Pond: Rogue AI, and creator Chris Sorrell has publicly expressed frustration about the divided ownership in an interview with Time Extension.

The James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough will be available in October 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2 (physical and digital via the Nintendo eShop) and on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox.

System 3’s updated announcement and the Gematsu report provide the latest confirmed details ahead of launch.
