PixelHeart and JoshProd Announce New 3D Survival Horror for Sega Dreamcast: A Tribute to Classic Gaming

PixelHeart and JoshProd, two prominent names in the retro gaming scene, have officially announced the early development of a new 3D survival horror game for the Sega Dreamcast.

This upcoming title is designed as an homage to the classic survival horror games of the late 1990s, featuring fixed camera perspectives and a moody, suspenseful atmosphere.

The announcement comes from Philippe Nguyen, producer and co-founder of both PixelHeart and JoshProd, who is known for his dedication to preserving and reviving classic gaming experiences through new releases on legacy hardware.

While the project is still in its nascent stages, Nguyen has confirmed that the team is committed to delivering a game that retains the essence of the genre’s roots.

"We're focused on recreating the mood and style that defined classic survival horror, with fixed camera angles setting the stage for a dark, immersive atmosphere," Nguyen stated, expressing the intent for the project to serve as a heartfelt tribute to the genre's golden era.

PixelHeart, established in 2018 by Philippe Nguyen, Sami Chlagou, and Michaël Rabaioli, specializes in publishing physical games for retro platforms such as the Dreamcast, Neo Geo, and Game Boy.

The company has also expanded its reach to modern platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, and has carved out a niche in distributing premium editions of both new and classic games.

JoshProd, meanwhile, was also founded by Nguyen and is primarily focused on developing titles for retro hardware, notably the Dreamcast, Mega Drive, and Neo Geo.

The two companies collaborate closely, with PixelHeart distributing JoshProd's catalogue to a global audience of dedicated collectors and retro gaming enthusiasts.

Although no visual assets or gameplay footage are available yet, the announcement underscores PixelHeart and JoshProd's ongoing commitment to supporting the Dreamcast community.

The Dreamcast, launched by Sega in 1998 in Japan and 1999 globally, has maintained a loyal fanbase, in part due to publishers like PixelHeart issuing new physical releases for the platform long after its official lifecycle ended.

With a track record of bringing original titles and polished reissues to both vintage and contemporary hardware, PixelHeart continues to celebrate the rich legacy of classic gaming.

The new Dreamcast survival horror game stands as the latest example of their mission to bridge nostalgia and innovation, ensuring that both seasoned collectors and a new generation of players have access to unforgettable gaming experiences.

Further updates on the game's progress, launch timeline, and unique features are expected as development advances.

For now, fans of survival horror and retro consoles alike can anticipate a fresh yet familiar journey into the shadowy corridors of classic game design, courtesy of PixelHeart and JoshProd.
