Songbird Productions Set to Release 'Shape Shooter 2000' and 'Operation Followthrough' on Atari Jaguar in 2026
In a major announcement for fans of classic gaming, homebrew publisher Songbird Productions has confirmed that two new titles, Shape Shooter 2000 and Operation Followthrough, will launch on the Atari Jaguar in 2026.
This marks a significant addition to the growing library of modern releases for the retro console and signals continued enthusiasm among developers and players for homebrew projects on vintage platforms.
Shape Shooter 2000 is an ambitious 3D, multi-directional shoot 'em up that places players in the cockpit of a ship confined within a tightly controlled arena.
The primary objective is to survive relentless waves of 3D geometric adversaries, progressing through distinct zones and collecting power-ups to enhance your ship's capabilities.
The game's roots trace back to 2024, where it was initially conceived as an entry for JagJam 2024 by developer sjc.
During the competition, Shape Shooter 2000 excelled, winning four out of seven categories: Originality, Sound & Music, Playability, and Replay Value.
The prototype was subsequently made available for free on itch.io, garnering attention from both the community and industry insiders.
With Songbird Productions now helming the project, Shape Shooter 2000 has evolved into a fully realized title.
Carl Forhan of Songbird is contributing new design elements, expanding on the foundation laid by the original version, and integrating features not present in the initial release.
Announcing the game on Twitter/X, Songbird Productions described Shape Shooter 2000 as a 'futuristic, retro shooter set in the past,' highlighting its intense polygonal action, a pulsing soundtrack, and challenging gameplay.
The publisher has also released a preview video, offering a glimpse into the enhanced graphics and new features awaiting Jaguar enthusiasts.
In addition to Shape Shooter 2000, Songbird Productions is collaborating with developer Cobra!, creator of Operation Followthrough, another standout from JagJam 2024.
Operation Followthrough—winner of the remaining three categories at the event—is a fast-paced, on-rails shooter inspired by classics like Virtua Cop and Time Crisis.
Songbird is working with Cobra! to bring an upgraded version of the game to the Atari Jaguar in 2026, ensuring another dose of arcade-style excitement for homebrew fans.
By championing these innovative projects, Songbird Productions reinforces its commitment to supporting the Atari Jaguar community and keeping retro gaming culture alive.
Both Shape Shooter 2000 and Operation Followthrough are set to offer unique experiences for players eager to explore new titles on legacy hardware.
As the 2026 release date approaches, anticipation is high for what could become modern classics within the thriving world of homebrew development on the Atari Jaguar.
