Square Enix surprised fans and industry professionals during the latest Nintendo Partner Showcase by revealing The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, a brand-new action RPG set for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Building on the publisher’s tradition of innovative role-playing games, this title blends classic pixel-inspired visuals reminiscent of Octopath Traveler and Live a Live with a real-time, action-driven gameplay experience.
Unlike their previous turn-based releases, Square Enix shifts the spotlight to frenetic solo combat.
In The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, players embody Elliot, a lone adventurer who embarks on a perilous quest after discovering ancient ruins adorned with mysterious symbols.
The narrative commences in the Kingdom of Huther, a land shielded from monsters by a legendary "Spell of Safekeeping." As the spell’s boundaries are tested, Elliot must explore the expansive continent of Philabielda, a region dominated by formidable beast tribes.
A defining element of the game is the heroine’s arsenal: Elliot can wield seven weapon classes, including swords, bows, as well as chains and sickles, each upgradeable using a resource called Magicite.
Joining Elliot is Faie, a fairy companion capable of both assisting in battle and gathering items throughout the journey.
The gameplay accommodates both solo players and cooperative experiences—Elliot and Faie can be independently controlled, or assigned to two players in a co-op mode, broadening the game’s appeal to those seeking shared adventures.
As highlighted in the recent trailer, time travel stands as a core narrative pillar.
The story unfolds with the introduction of a mystical door, promising players a journey that "spans centuries" and offers an adventure lasting a thousand years.
This innovative feature sets The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales apart from traditional RPG storytelling, signifying a bold direction for Square Enix and reinforcing the studio’s reputation for narrative-driven experiences.
To build anticipation and solicit player feedback, a playable demo for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is now available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 through the eShop.
Following the demo period, Square Enix will launch a post-play survey, inviting players to share their experiences and influence final development decisions.
The announcement capped off a significant Partner Showcase for Nintendo, which also featured upcoming titles such as Octopath Traveler 0 (set for Switch and Switch 2 in December), Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment (coming this winter), and Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection (arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026).
For seasoned fans and newcomers alike, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales represents one of the most anticipated RPG releases on Nintendo’s evolving hardware platform.
Stay tuned for further updates as Square Enix prepares to bring this ambitious time-traveling quest to Nintendo Switch 2 players worldwide.
