SNK Launches VS Studio SNK with Katsuhiro Harada at the Helm

SNK today announced the creation of VS Studio SNK, a new internal studio that will operate as a consolidated subsidiary and collaborate directly with SNK on game software development.

The studio will be led by veteran producer Katsuhiro Harada, who brings decades of experience in fighting-game development to the new venture.

SNK is a Japanese developer and publisher best known for its fighting-game heritage, including long-running franchises such as The King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown.

In its announcement, SNK confirmed it has invested in VS Studio SNK and will work in partnership with the new studio on future projects.

Harada spent 31 years at Namco, where he played a central role in shaping the modern fighting-game genre and supporting the competitive communities that evolved into today’s global e-sports ecosystem.

Company statements characterize VS Studio SNK as founded on a development philosophy that prioritizes careful craftsmanship while looking beyond established traditions; in journalistic terms, Harada is directing the studio to combine respect for classic fighting-game design with a rigorous emphasis on quality and refinement.

The establishment of VS Studio SNK marks a notable personnel and organizational shift.

SNK’s confirmation that the studio will be consolidated as part of the group reflects a formal, long-term investment rather than a purely external partnership.

SNK has a history of bringing its catalog to multiple platforms and digital storefronts, with titles from its library available across consoles and platforms including releases on the Nintendo Switch and availability via storefronts such as the Nintendo eShop.

For industry observers, the combination of SNK’s IP portfolio and Harada’s production experience is significant: it joins an established fighting-game publisher with a well-known developer figure who has a track record in both franchise stewardship and community engagement.

SNK and VS Studio SNK will collaborate on game software development going forward, and the companies have positioned the new studio as an integral part of SNK’s development roadmap.

SNK’s announcement did not specify immediate project details, release dates, or platform targets.

The company confirmed only the studio formation, Harada’s leadership role, and the decision to consolidate VS Studio SNK into the SNK group as part of a strategic investment.
