System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster Launches on Nintendo Switch in June 2025 System Shock 2, the beloved 1999 sci-fi horror action RPG, is set to make its return in the form of the System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster.

Announced during the 'Future Games Show: Spring Showcase,' Nightdive Studios revealed that this definitive version of the classic will arrive on the Nintendo Switch, alongside other platforms, on June 26, 2025. Nightdive Studios, renowned for breathing new life into iconic retro titles on modern hardware, has rebuilt System Shock 2 for today’s platforms using their proprietary KEX Engine.

The remaster is designed to deliver a significant leap in visual fidelity, enhanced gameplay features, improved performance, and cutting-edge capabilities like cross-play co-op multiplayer and mod support.

The revamp aims to both honor the original and modernize the experience for new generations of players. Pre-orders for System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster are already available on select platforms, with pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch expected to open soon via the Switch eShop.

Along with this announcement, Nightdive Studios offered new promotional screenshots and an updated game description: "Set 42 years after the original System Shock, System Shock 2 follows the return of the rogue AI antagonist SHODAN, whose army of genetically engineered mutants has overtaken the starship Von Braun.

Players assume the role of a soldier awakening from cryo-sleep, equipped with advanced cybernetic implants.

As they navigate the dark corridors of the haunted spacecraft, players will master a variety of upgradable skills, wield futuristic weaponry, and employ paranormal psionic powers, all in a desperate struggle to survive SHODAN’s nightmarish designs and unravel the terrifying mystery at the core of the Von Braun." It’s notable that while Nightdive Studios successfully released a remake of the 1994 original System Shock on other platforms, a Switch edition was never realized.

With System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster now officially set for the Nintendo Switch, fans of the franchise will finally have the chance to experience this landmark game on a portable Nintendo console for the first time. System Shock 2 remains celebrated for its atmospheric blend of role-playing and survival horror elements, its innovative storytelling, and the unforgettable villain SHODAN, still considered one of gaming’s most iconic antagonists.

Nightdive Studios’ track record, along with the improvements promised for this remaster, have set high expectations for both long-term fans and newcomers eager to discover this genre-defining classic on the Nintendo Switch. System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster will launch globally June 26, 2025, with further information and pre-orders for Nintendo Switch to follow on the eShop.
