Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can once again claim exclusive rewards by engaging with classic games.
Following on from last month's mission-based unlocks, Nintendo has introduced a new event centered around Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island for the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) service.
This initiative rewards players who launch the game using the SNES app on their Nintendo Switch console, offering them a set of limited-time, themed user icons.
The special batch consists of five icons, each depicting beloved characters such as Baby Mario, Yoshi, and Poochy.
Each icon can be redeemed for 10 Platinum Points — the digital rewards currency earned through Nintendo’s My Nintendo loyalty program.
To access these icons, subscribers must first have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, sufficient Platinum Points, and the SNES app installed on their system.
Unlocking the icons is straightforward: launch the Super Nintendo Entertainment System app on your Nintendo Switch, start up Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, and play the game.
Once the title has been initiated, eligible users can head to the missions & rewards section in the NSO app to claim and purchase the new set of icons before the offer expires.
This particular batch of Yoshi’s Island icons is scheduled to remain available until May 2024, providing members a limited window to add these collectibles to their accounts.
A Nintendo spokesperson summarized the campaign in a statement, noting that the program gives extra value to Switch Online members and encourages revisiting classic titles.
By integrating these missions, Nintendo continues to leverage its rich retro library to offer exclusive rewards and enhance engagement among dedicated fans of platforms like the Super Nintendo.
Since its original release in 1995, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island has become a staple of Nintendo’s first-party lineup, celebrated for its distinct visual style and inventive gameplay.
Its inclusion in the Switch Online SNES catalog has introduced a new generation of players to Yoshi’s adventure, while special promotions such as these icon missions ensure ongoing enthusiasm for both the service and Nintendo’s historic titles.
Players interested in redeeming these icons can check their Platinum Points balance and visit the Nintendo Switch Online hub to participate in the promotion.
As Nintendo continues to expand its rewards platform, further opportunities may arise for Switch users to earn unique content tied directly to gameplay milestones on the eShop and retro libraries.
