Nintendo continues to expand its growing Switch Online + Expansion Pack catalog with the announcement that Forsaken 64, the renowned first-person shooter from Acclaim Entertainment, will be joining the service’s 'Mature' Nintendo 64 app lineup.
Originally launched for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, Forsaken 64 will be available to both current-generation Switch owners and upcoming Switch 2 users starting September 4, 2025.
Forsaken 64, developed by Acclaim Entertainment, quickly gained cult status upon its initial release due to its immersive 3D environments, dizzying anti-gravity action, and robust multiplayer modes, a rarity for shooters of that era.
The game invites players to step into the role of a hardened mercenary dispatched to a devastated Earth.
Tasked with infiltrating and dismantling the final strongholds of a mechanized menace, players must navigate treacherous landscapes while piloting customizable anti-gravity bikes, confronting hostile machines and rival bounty hunters along the way.
According to Nintendo's official overview, Forsaken 64 offers gamers the ability to select from multiple play modes, including both single-player and competitive multiplayer options.
Each vehicle in the game possesses distinct attributes, and character selection influences gameplay style, offering variety and replayability.
The availability of different weapons, enemies, and powerups shifts with each stage, challenging players to stay alert and adapt their strategies.
To access Forsaken 64 after its September 2025 debut, subscribers will be required to maintain an active Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership and download the 'Mature' version of the Nintendo 64 app, available via the Switch eShop.
This mature-rated tier of the app is designed to deliver a broader selection of classic titles tailored for experienced gamers seeking nostalgia or new challenges.
The addition of Forsaken 64 follows the recent introduction of other notable classics on Nintendo’s digital platforms.
Chibi-Robo! recently became available for GameCube fans within the Nintendo Classics library, while long-requested SNES title Mario Paint was also added to the Switch Online selection.
In Japan, subscribers can now enjoy Magical Vacation, a highly regarded 2001 Game Boy Advance RPG developed by Brownie Brown.
By incorporating Forsaken 64 into its Switch Online + Expansion Pack lineup, Nintendo continues to celebrate its storied history of groundbreaking titles and ensure that iconic games remain accessible to both nostalgic fans and new audiences.
The upcoming launch on September 4, 2025, further solidifies Switch Online’s reputation as a premier destination for classic gaming experiences on Nintendo Switch and the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
