Nintendo has once again cemented its dominance in the gaming industry with the launch of its highly anticipated Switch 2 console.

According to new data released by Circana’s Mat Piscatella, the Nintendo Switch 2 has debuted as the fastest-selling video game hardware device in U.S.

history.

The console moved an impressive 1.6 million units in the United States in June 2025, with global first-month sales reaching approximately 3.5 million units.

This surge comes amid significant consumer anticipation and marks another milestone for Nintendo's storied hardware legacy. In a recent summary of June 2025 U.S.

Video Game Market highlights, Circana reported, “The Nintendo Switch 2 launched as the fastest-selling video game hardware device in U.S.

history, propelling consumer spending on hardware and accessories to record highs for June.” This achievement has fueled the U.S.

video game market, which saw a 22% year-over-year increase in spending for the month.

Hardware sales experienced an extraordinary 249% surge—an increase attributed almost entirely to the successful launch of the Switch 2.

Accessory sales also benefited from heightened demand during this period. Despite this robust performance in June, Circana also noted that year-to-date spending is still trailing behind the same period in 2024.

Nevertheless, the introduction of the Nintendo Switch 2 not only boosted hardware sales but also spurred increased spending on video games themselves, emphasizing the console’s influential presence in the market. Looking at the top games for June 2025, Elden Ring: Nightreign claimed the spot as the month’s best-selling title in the U.S., followed by Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Nintendo’s presence came in at third place with Mario Kart World.

It is important to highlight that Nintendo traditionally omits digital sales data from its reports.

This omission makes it challenging to compare Mario Kart World’s digital and physical sales directly, but it raises questions about whether more players are opting for the Switch 2 bundle or purchasing the game via the Nintendo eShop, especially considering the physical version carries a $30 premium over the bundled or digital release. Nintendo has further capitalized on this momentum by announcing new hardware and software bundles, such as the Pokémon Legends: Z-A Switch 2 bundle, offering additional value for fans.

Meanwhile, Switch 2 maintains versatile game format options, ranging from cartridges to digital codes, reinforcing Nintendo’s commitment to accessibility and consumer choice. With sales records shattered and consumer excitement at an all-time high, the Nintendo Switch 2’s extraordinary debut signifies not only a major win for the company, but also sets a high bar for the gaming industry at large.

As the system’s library expands and future Nintendo Direct presentations deliver more content announcements, all eyes will remain on how Nintendo continues to shape the gaming landscape with the Switch 2.
