Mario Tennis Fever Serves Up New Features and Characters on Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo has announced Mario Tennis Fever, the next major entry in the acclaimed Mario Tennis franchise, set for release on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 12, 2025.
Revealed during the Nintendo Direct broadcast on September 12, 2025, this installment aims to amplify the series’ arcade-inspired tennis gameplay with innovative features and a robust roster of characters, expanding on the legacy established by developer Camelot Software Planning.
Expanding on its storied tradition, Mario Tennis Fever introduces several standout additions designed to elevate both solo and multiplayer experiences.
One of the most prominent updates is the introduction of "Fever Rackets"—a collection of 30 unique rackets, each bestowing special abilities that can turn the tide of any match.
These new equipment options promise deeper strategic possibilities for seasoned players and series newcomers alike.
Players can select from more than 38 playable characters, marking one of the largest rosters in the franchise’s history.
This expansive selection enables fans to compete as their favorite Mushroom Kingdom personalities, adding diversity and replayability to each match.
Mario Tennis Fever also brings a wealth of game modes to the court, including Tournament, Trial Towers, and the novel Mix It Up Mode, which incorporates "Wonder" effects inspired by other recent Nintendo adventures.
Returning fans will be pleased to see the comeback of Adventure Mode, featuring an all-new single-player campaign.
In this mode, Mario and his friends are transformed into baby versions of themselves and must overcome a series of challenges and monsters to return to their original forms.
Nintendo described the campaign as a “quest where baby Mario and crew must battle through formidable foes and bewildering obstacles to restore their rightful selves.”
Another major innovation leverages the hardware advances of the Nintendo Switch 2.
Enhanced Joy-Con motion controls allow for the most precise and immersive motion-based tennis gameplay ever seen in the series.
This advancement is poised to appeal to both casual and competitive players looking for refined, responsive controls during heated matches.
Mario Tennis Fever continues Camelot Software Planning’s tradition of delivering vibrant, accessible sports experiences for Nintendo platforms while introducing fresh content for a new generation of players.
With pre-orders available via the Nintendo eShop and anticipation building across the gaming community, the launch of Mario Tennis Fever on February 12, 2025, is shaping up to be one of the year’s most highly anticipated releases for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Stay tuned for further updates from Nintendo, including hands-on previews and gameplay showcases, as the release date approaches.
